  • Ladies and Gentlemen - Please welcome N5188M

    Here she is. Artfully decorated with vegetation.
    I thought long and hard over the pros/cons about picking up a project, but the price, the availability of another Tcraft that I can fly, and my love of piddling swayed the decision.
    We'll keep everyone advised as we go along.
    Next step is to trailer her closer to home (she's curently 2 hours away) and get a through exam so we get a better picture of what she needs. - Mike

              Even more so; I'm an amateur radio op. and '88' is short for 'Love and Kisses', which appears on love notes from my sweetie from time to time, so she's all giggily - MIke

                  Congrats Mike!!! Like has been said earlier... we're here to help ya! Can't wait to see more pics and see what ya find on your close inspection.
                  Best advice right now to give you.... get a big 3 ring loose leaf notebook and write down everything as you take it apart... keep that running "log" of what's what, and take a bazillion pictures...even of stuff that you're sure isn't important... and it will all come in handy as you go back together!!
                  Way to go!!!

                    Oh yes; the first will be some close-up pics of the prop which appears to be badly weathered; I"m concerned that she might fly apart at 2,300 RPM (part of the exercise in getting compression back), so there may be a delay in running her up. My A&P sez he'll take a look early next week, but I'll take pics on Sat.
                    Sat will be devoted to LiquidWrenching everything in sight, esp the valve stems (if they arn't moving); also dumping the old oil, checking the screen, new oil +MMO and lots of spinning of the prop (one plug per cylinder and sparkplug leads removed); drain the old gas (AVGAS was last used) and see what comes thru;
                    I'm pumped. - MIke

                        That'll buff right out. (well, maybe not the prop)

                          I had to look twice, but I swear I can see that airplane smiling.

                            As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even THINK about flying that thing until you check the tubing and replace the cover. Be sure to tie the pellet gun to the chair frame.

                            If I were you, I'd fly that pretty black and yellow Taylorcraft, it's safer!
