    Re: Fairleads

The clips would not keep mine from coming out. That is why I used the one in the picture on my previos post.

      Wayne,

Just noted you are from Pell City. Got a chance to visit there a few months back. What a nice airport, did they get the new building up yet? I've never seen an airport with a white fence around it! I was impressed!!!
      Cheers,
      Marty

        Re: Fairleads

Thanks Marty. The have the concrete poured but that is about it. The had a malfunction with the building vendor. They sent the wrong building so when the correct one came in the contractor was on another project. The fence looks really good. i'm just glad I didn't have to pay the bill.

Our EAA chapter has a really good breakfast on the second Saturday of every month. Come join us.

          Re: Fairleads

OK, Bob. Actually that's what I ordered but I didn't realize I could get the snap rings there at Spruce. I can get them at a local stocked hardware store.

But I discovered something else in researching this. If you remember from a previous post, I mentioned that my BC12D didn't have any fairleads, even though the cables are fine.

Turns out that when they black epoxy painted the bare fuselage back in 1989 prior to cover, the thin paper-type fairleads are there but painted so they look like the pipes. I just didn't realize that the originals were so thin because I was looking for the Piper type of fairleads.

Maybe today I'll get my fairlead segments so we'll know if they fit (which I now expect they will) but I am not as worried now that I know the originals are still in there.

          Thanks to everyone, mystery solved.

            Re: Fairleads

Further, Jack, if they are worn a bit you could rotate them to present "fresh" material for the cables to wear upon. It might require some acrobatics to get inside the fuselage, however...got a small child available?

Anyone have a better image of this sketch. I lose the dimensions when I try to enlarge it. I have some spare time and thought I would try to make a few sets.

                      Re: Fairleads

I tried to recreate the sketch of the fairleads. I also had trouble picking up the dimensions from the old sketch. So assume that the dimensions below are wrong until I verify that they will work (by measuring my airplane).
