GASCOLATOR ACCESS - Awhile back… somebody mentioned how difficult it is to drain fuel from the gascolator. I agree. Usually end up with an armpit dose of aviation cologne. Here is a couple photos of the access door on my father-in-law’s BC-65. Sure is a nice feature.

Lets hear fom others on recommended mods.

I use a long sampling screwdriver from the bottom, cut hole in cowl. or the other ship has a trunk latch fastener system real easy to open and reach in with sample cup...

I just open the top half of the cowl and reach down there with my long arms and get a sample. Use a standard sample screwdriver, reach down below the gascolator and push up on the valve. No drips on me.

Of course, I have the closed cowl. Looks like a nice setup for the open cowl.

I mounted the Curtis drain valve on a 45 degree AN fitting screwed into the gascolator, so you can reach in there with your screwdriver sample tube from under the cowling, with no holes, no doors, etc. Works great, no moving parts, all airplane quality hardware.
