hi all i just started a taylorcraft i am haveing to choose witch one i want but first i have to find the seiral numbers on the fuse but i cant find it can yall help ???

Aircraft seriel number should be stamped on the manufacturers plate which should be located someplace inside the cabin, little identification "plate" about four inches by two & a half inches, also stamped on it should be the model designation, TC# and date of manufacture, engine make & ser # and the "Taylorcraft" logo. Make, model and ser. # should also be printed in some manner on the right side of the fuselage near the tail just under the front of the horizontal stabilizer, usually printed in rather small print.

Serial number is stamped into the fuselage on the left upper door hinge.

ya thats what they were telling me yesterday but i could not find it there they also said to look at the engine control mount they said it could also be there but it was not but lucky me the it one that still has an n number on it so ill try that way im buying this taylorcraft at $8,000 each and he has some 6 or 7 of them all in bones i think the one sitting out side is a bc-12d-4-85 and get the stc for the model 19 for it so i can get that gain in the gross ill have to take some pics of what he has but any way thanks for the help ttyl

Tim, mine was on the BACK side (away from the pilot) of the engine control mount plate... it took some looking, but it was there.

The DATA PLATE is the absolute authority for the serial number. If no DATA Plate with craft then step gently. That serial may be retired or registered with another "N" number.
Data Plates can be replaced with the right paper work.
My '41 model has no serial number anywhere except the dataplate.

I just had my '40 BC-65 out to blow the cobwebs out & bore a hole in the sky this afternoon. Ahh, this flyin's FUN!
Anyway, while it was on my mind I looked for the seriel # stamped on the fuselage by the left upper door hinge? Didn't find anything on the fuselage side of the hinge or on the fuselage tubing but what I did find was what appeared to be a seriel number stamped on the top of the upper door hinge on the DOOR side of the hinge, on both the left and right doors? 'nother ??, the number stamped on both the door hinges was 1787, while the airframe seriel number of my airplane is 1770 (as per data plate and paperwork). So I'm assuming the doors from another airplane were used when the aircraft was completely re-built in 1946? Seems a little strange to me that they'd stamp the airframe seriel number on the door side of the hinge and not on the side that's welded to the fuselage?

Don't panic Tim.

It's very common for the serial number to not match the paperwork, or you can't find the serial number, or the serial number is in a different place, or no data plate, or...well, all the above.

Search "serial number" on this website for some background. You can also search on the FAA website to make sure your serial number and N-number are not registered to someone. The FAA has a regular, well used, procedure for issueing a new data plate if yours is lost.

Mine is a 46 wjth the serial no. on the right hand door hinge and door. The no. does not match my serial no., but when it looked up the frame serial it was on another t-craft out east. That t-craft has a differnt serial no. than what is stamped on the door hinge. Go figure. The same thing is true on my cub. Numbers don't match. George

What vintage Taylorcraft? e-mail me with ser# or N number info , I think you have a BC12D-85. there is a fuselage ser# on each fusealge , but the Data plate is the controlling factor....direct e-mail [email protected]

wow really thanks for all the info ya i will see about getting some pics ya there is one that i know of to be a bc12d-85 the others ill still have to find the numbers on them i will get the info for yall tomarrow after i get off work and thanks again

I have have most most T-crafts fuse serial number to match dataplates and paperwork, unless something had been swapped along the way. If they are only a few numbers off, then it stands to reason they were swapped in the production line somewhere along the way. Pipers are not that way. Fuselage serial numbers have no relavence to paperwork and have never seen one that matched. I need to check several fuselages I have here and see where the numbers are. Memory is saying there were sevral locations for serial number stampings on "B" models. I hate having CRS!
