  • Good places to find A-65 parts?

Can someone point me to good places to buy parts in the US to rebuilt my Continental A-65-8?

Looks like I need some standard stuff like crank bearings, crank oil seal, gasket set. Also need some more specific things like a cam shaft (or place that can build up a worn lobe), cam lifters, tach drive housing, oil sump.

Does anyone have experience wtih Fresno Airparts (typically inside the front cover of Trade-a-Plane)? They list a lot of the parts that I need but I'm a little leary of a place that won't take credit cards (and the buyer prtection they give).

    I'm also looking for a wooden prop a 72 x 44 would be best.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Bob

I bought all my overhaul parts from Fresno. You have to go COD or send them a check. No credit cards. I did however get 2 intake valves that were bent out of the box. They exchanged them no worries. I will continue to buy parts from them.

If you want to spend the $$$ new cylinder assemblies are available from Superior Air Products. These Millenium Cylinders are a great product. The only downside is the cost.

I buy 90% of my new engine parts from Fresno(COD) and I have built up several engines. I have only got the wrong part from them once and that was as much my fault as theirs. They overnighted the correct parts to me at no extra charge.
For rebuilt or overhauled exchange parts I almost always go with Gibson Aviation. I've found that quality from both places are second to none but Gibsons is a little cheaper and a little faster on used, rebuilt,or overhauled stuff .

I'll just chime in and say Fresno is the real deal. They got that page one position in TAP by being around a long, long time.

I ordered all my A65 stuff from them last year. The guy checked stock, estimated shipping cost over the phone and I sent him a check. Got my parts in a couple weeks. No problem.

Reasonable prices, honest people, and they do business the old way...it's all good.

I will second Fresno and Gibson. Also preferred Airparts has NOS parts and I have been happy with them. When I order from Fresno, I order COD and have it shipped to my local UPS store. Fresno will give you the exact cost when you call them, so you can leave a check with the UPS store + their $5 charge. The only problem I have with Fresno is that their parts are old NOS, and if you order an overhaul gasket set you will find the engine mount rubbers are as hard as Vermont granite--I'd get another set from Superior. Capt Jon's Hangar has many of the parts you might want, but he's not back in business yet, I don't think--he moved to Florida. Also check with Aircraft Specialties and some of the other companies that advertise in Trade A Plane because they also have parts for sale. It's an expensive proposition, but I wouldn't scrimp anywhere.

Fresno is alright if you can deal with their order policy. I ordered a case through Captain Woody in Wisconsin, he has his parts inspected and yellow tagged. You can run across his number on Barnstormers now and then. I can get it for you if you need it. He is quite the character and you will enjoy talking to him.
              Cheers,

Although I probably won't have everything you need, I have a pretty good supply of NOS as well as used parts. If you're interested, send me a list offline.

I order most my stuff through Aircraft Specialties in Tulsa, OK. Besides being able to yellow tag all your parts, they stock most items as well with very good prices on new parts. Fresno is also good, but as mentioned earlier, the parts are NOS items.
