        Cold WX ramblings

It was pretty chilly, but no wind, so bearable. Installed new ELT, after the batteries(new) in my old Sharc 7 leaked all over it's circuit board...! Installed cold weather kit on oil sump and induction tubes...will see if that makes any noticeable temp. difference. Rectangular opening below prop (the "mouth") was already covered with blank-off plate. Used my wife's hairdryer on the trim jackscrew, after moisture from blowing snow froze so as to keep things from turning. Thank goodness for Bunny Boots and Mickey Mouse boots...warm feet even at sub-zero temps. Plane is bundled up with my old 850 watt heater/fan unit out of an old SpeedQueen dishwasher...with a good adjustable thermostat control. The control is set at 90 Degrees F. Keeps the engine toasty warm and at a constant temp. Clear and cold tonight...red sky...should be good tomorrow...good and cold!

            Fly tomorrow

Lance or any of the AK tribe, I think I will fly up to Vogle Lake, near Pt. Possession, tomorrow morning, before noon, and take a look at the cabin there. Like you say, the WX seems balmy compared to a couple of days ago. Kenai reported about minus 34 F. during some of our chilliest WX. We had quite a bit of wind. I had a dozer come in today and plow out the drifts. Hope it doesn't rain tonight...that's all we need with this snow. Has anybody run into "flyer1" in Anchorage yet? I will try calling his cell phone. Dick

              Me too Lance!

I Hope to be in the air about 3PM. Looks like the pressures are equalizing. If it is not the cold it is the dam wind. Beautiful afternoon. It has been a couple of months since I could say that.

                Alaskan

Flew up to Vogel Lake cabin this afternoon. Only one snowmachine visit was logged since I was there the middle of Oct. Still a bit of firewood stacked outside...wouldn't hurt to haul a few chunks in via plane. Pretty flat light conditions today...bumpy. WX was calling for gusts to 75 in Turnagain. Was pretty smooth until I got within five miles of Pt. Possession. The snow conditions are sure a lot better. Temp. was about 38 Deg. F at a 1000 ft. A bit different from the minus 34 between Soldotna and Kenai on Sun. Take a look at the picture...will give you an idea of the size of the cabin. Old, but serviceable...and dry inside.

Ahhh! It felt good to be back in the air even if it was only for an hour. Played on some of the lakes in Willow and as you mentioned Dick, the light was pretty flat so had to be very careful.

Saw your bird Lance, with a dusting of snow, must of had snow on Tuesday or early Wednesday?

Well I am game for the cabin at Vogel Lake. How about some you other guys?

This critter wandered out on the lake as I was putting the plane to bed...frozen wing covers are a mess! Still a beautiful afternoon, wandering around for nearly two hours, just enjoying the frozen landscape. Dick
