  • New to site

My name is Mike Redpath. Some of you guys already know me, some of you don't. I have been a long time lurker, but since site traffic seems to be picking up I decided to go ahead and join. I have been working on and restoring T-crafts and other antiques for nearly 20 years.

My grandfather was Roy Good who owned Aircraft & Engine Enterprises. We have had T-crafts in and out of the family since '46. I have taken over his inventory and selling off all the extra stuff not needed to finish the projects we have in the shop.

I also own Falcon Propellers which was originally Fahlin Propellers. We have been building new wood props off and on since 1999. End of last year we finally received our Production Certificate and will be going into full production in a few months when I recover from my broken leg.

    Re: New to site

    Welcome Mike,

I have a beautiful old, large, Fahlin prop hanging on my wall. My mom got it as a souvenir from an airport she used to fly from that is no longer in operation here in Springfield.
    Cheers,
    Marty

Hi Mike , we have a few of your props around here..... Tell me about Roy , I presume he is gone , you say he was your Grandfather. I will never forget his voice, rather husky and to the point. Never did much business but had a lot of discussion. Tell us about your inventory or e-mail me direct [email protected] see www.barberaircraft.com

        Re: New to site

He passed away March 23 of last year. I had a hard time around the shop for several months without him here. He tought me alot over the last 20 years of helping him with his business and mine.

I have alot of parts, but alot of the usual hard to find stuff is long gone. No cowlings or struts. Do have a lot of small stuff and still some NOS stuff from Lock Haven when we were a Certified Taylorcraft Parts Distributer. We also have L-2 parts as well.

          Welcome Mike!
I fly behind a prized Ole Fahlin. Thanks for continuing the tradition.
Question.... did Ole use dope for the red tips and if so, was it a stock color? The overall varnish is perfect except on the red, where it is developing small cracks in the finish. This prop was "new" in the box and has about 50 hours over two years. Any suggestions on this minor problem are appreciated.
Hope your back on your feet soon!

            Re: New to site

The red is not original to Fahlins. Early ones were natural cotton only. I am not sure about later ones. I would have to see a pic to tell you how to fix it. I use an automotive urethane now that holds up fairly well. Refinishing is a possiblity but unless you have a way to balance it I don't suggest you do it yourself.

Have you ever tried a clear coat on a prop ? I have seen a few and they look terrific. I do not know if they were balanced.

                Mike,

I am sure you are going to get bombarded with requests for parts since you mention you are selling off what is not needed for your projects. Do you plan on listing items for sale or just taking requests?

I personally am interested in any L-2 items.

                Thanks,

                Ron Greene

Mike please jump in with a list of available parts & maybe prices too, information on ordering.... I too remember just sitting there in the shop and reflecting the next day after my Dad went west, lots of tears and then went back to work that afternoon. Very late but our thoughts go with You and the rest of the family. I fly a Falcon on an A-65 on a Pietenpohl ( Frank Pavliga's ship)

                    Re: New to site

We have a 50 year collection of parts consuming a 40X100 building and part of our main hangar. A complete list with prices is just out of the question. What I will do is open a thread in the classified section for people to request items and as I come across items I know we will not be needing, I will list those for sale individually. Here is a quick list of what we do have:

                    1. Tail feathers, prewar and post war, as is to powdercoated ready to cover.
                    2. Tail wheels, no Scott's
                    3. Tailwires, not many left
                    4. Pulleys
                    5. Fairlead blocks
                    6. Landing gear, "B" gears need repaired, Lots of good L-2 gear.
                    7. Wheels, not many left
                    8. brake lining kits
                    9. doors, "B" only prewar one side only and post war
                    10. rudder pedals
                    11. control columns
                    12. instrument panels, none perfect
                    13. gas tanks, couple header tanks, wing tanks, no left side
                    14. wing hardware
                    15. wing ribs, prewar and post war, some new
                    16. engine mounts, several L-2, couple "B" but need one leg repaired
                    17. 2 ea. rough L-2 projects
                    18. 1 ea. decent prewar project with rough wings
                    19. 1 ea. rough postwar De Luxe project no wings
                    20. Lots of other little stuff to long to list.

If there is something you don't see, just ask.

                      Mike

I have a falcon prop on an aeronca 7ac. Its in need of an overhaul. Do you do the overhauls? If not could you provide information on who does.

I also have a brand new Sensenich cruise prop with Sensenich made especially for Aeronca Decals provided by Dick Love for sale. If interested contact me and I will send a photo.

What does it need? I think Guy Watson can legally repair one but don't be in a hurry. If it just needs refinished, I can do it.

It needs an overhaul. I have refinished it. Needs new fabric and some TLC.

                            Thanks for the fast response.
