  • C65 manual

    Hi,

I'm new to this group and to taylorcrafts. I just bought a BC12D and can't wait to get flying.

I posted a few pictures and just to attract some viewers, I have included a link to download the C65/C75 manual. My apologies for the long address.

    http://www.kwic.com/~sinnamon/taylorcraft/

I just finished removing, repairing and painting the exhaust. What an unbelievable pain in the neck it was to remove. Next time I may just cut it off and use straight stacks.

Any advice for a new T-craft owner?

    Cheers,

    Andy

    Re: C65 manual

    Welcome, Andy.

In the UK we operate on an "Owner-maintenance "system, similar to the Canadian system. What we do with our exhaust is to put a boltable flange on the horizontal cross-piece that goes parallel to the firewall.
This means that we can remove each side of the exhaust independently, without pulling the whole engine away from the firewall.

There are several of your fellow Canadians on this bulletin board; Len and Grant spring to mind. Where is Norfolk? I know London, Hamilton, the Lake Huron coastline, Owen Sound, North Bay, Sudbury and a few points inbetween.

I am also new to the T-craft but it is my second time around. I learned to fly in the navy inT-crafts in 1943. Thanks for the manual. My T-craft is in Rockford Illinois, I live in Venice Florida expect to bring it down here in March. Thanks for the Manual..I am looking for a installation manual for a King KY-92 transceiver.

Welcome aboard. I saved the Manual, it is great. I have the original hard copy. You know that is the A-65/A-75 . The C-75 is different engine. Come see us in Alliance some time. The exhaust gets easier each time, we do it in about one hour. I too agree that the two piece would be the way to go ; Dawley called me last week and that was the first thing I suggested, plus thinner flanges and copper-asbestos style gaskets again. They will be working with me!

          Rob,

I had thought about the bolt flange idea. I may do that the next go around. It would be in the middle of the cabin heat muff correct? I was afraid that if the gasket leaked, I would be COed to death. Cabin heat is perhaps a bigger consideration here.

Norfolk is south east of London and south west of Hamilton and includes a big stretch of the Lake Erie shore.

            Re: C65 manual

Andy: we had the same worries about CO poisoning: You are right, we position the joint just where there is an existing junction between the carb heat and cabin heat muff. We use a prorietary wrinkly copper/brass seal, with automotive-type eshaust gunk to seal.

No problems after 1500 hours with one aircraft, 1000 with the other and 500 hours with the third aircraft (not all my hours, I will add!)

We still check every annual, of course.

I also agree with Forrest on the gaskets...in that I use the spiral-wound gaskets that appear to not be officially available for the A-65 installation. But 5 minutes with a coarse (bastard) file soon resolves any interference against the intake manifold.

Andy: do you know Rob Spence?

Hi Rob up a bit late? I may need your data on the bolt flange. I suggested that they split the heat muffs at that point. and maybe use buttons to increase the heat out put on both sides.

                  Re: A65 manual

Well, I just got home (1am) from reinstalling the repaired exhaust system and engine. Still have to reinstall the prop, but the worst is over. It looks good. Freshly painted with header paint. The oil temp gauge capilliary tube broke when I went to reconnect it. Just too much bending over the years I guess. Oh well, now I'll have to install a modern one - it'll look out of place.

Jason, I've dropped into York a couple times. Pretty bad instant coffee. Call if you want to see my T-craft. 519-443-8833. It is based in Springvale.

Robert, I don't know Rob Spence. I see from the Canadian aircraft register that he lives in Muirkirk That is 2-3 hours from here.

                    Re: C65 manual

Congratulations on your airplane. Just one problem... it seems that the previous owner could not understand that a Taylorcraft is not a Citabria, and tried to paint it as such as well as put in Citabria shaped rear windows. In my humble opinion, painting out those four white stripes on the fin/ridder would make it look a lot better

You will love your Taylorcraft, enjoy it in good health and take good care of it.

                      Re: C65 manual

I installed a new SS exhaust system I purchased from Sonny Porch. It has the split in the center next to the firewall. A slide in affair, with exhaust putty, deosn't leak. (even without the putty) and can be removed without removing or moving the engine. Still not my favorite job to do.
