The bearing set that is on the axle flush against the dust plate. My race is in the shinn wheel. I'm trying to clean up the landing gear and shinn break assembly. I'm down to removing the bearing to gain access to the screws that hold the rest to the break assembly to the landing gear. I don't want to get rough with the bearing until I know how to get it off. Is it possible that its supposed to slide off but is seized to the axle?
Yes, Jim, that is possible.
When you pull the wheel off, the large bearing should be relatively loose on the backplate...a bit of jimmying with a scredriver will see the bearing away (don't damage the axle itself..this is the location for the inner race.
Behind this bearing should be a 2 1/2 " dia thrust plate which will then give access to the screws that hold on the dust plate.
Mine is all apart, after replacing ALL the bearing components, so I can do photos tomorrow.
I tapped a screw driver in from both sides, tapping first one side then the other until it popped right off like it should have from the beginning. Thanks for your input.
