  • Need Engine Mount 'discs'

Temporairly removing the Lycoming from my 1940 BL-65. Drawing notes that the 'discs' between the engine mont and engine are part number B-972. Another drawing shows that the SAME part number is used on the engine mounts for some Continental engines.

These discs appear to be about 1 inch in diameter and about 7/16 inch thick, with a hole for the 7/16 engine bolt. Anyone know where to get a set of these? Anyone know of a good substitute?

    Thanks (in advance)

They're for sale in A/C Spruce and WagAero for about $7.00 each!

Any decent machinist would turn these for you for a lot less than that!

Thanks for the hints guys. Unfortunately, the 'Discs' that I need, are made of some sort of rubber. The composition is probably the same as everyone else's engine mount rubber, but the shape appears to be a flat disc, 1 inch in diameter and less than a half inch thick.

I will keep looking. Thanks anyway.

I used to have a BL-65 and forgot about those. Mine had a thinner version between the mount and fuselage also.

I would buy a truck mud flap and then take a piece of 1" or perhaps 1-1/16" tubing with a square end and grind a sharpe edge on it then pound the mud flap onto the sharp end with a wood or rubber mallet or perhaps a steel hammer would do until the mud flap was cut thru and you will a 1" dia. rubber disk. Take similar action with a smaller tube to cut out the center for the bolt.

Bet you could use and old tire or find flat reinforced rubber stock in a plumbing supply.

            Dave.
