Have your IA check the latest listings. I do not find a direct STC ; BUT the 0-235-L2C was used for the F-21 series...use the Gilberti (now Harer STC) to get it up to the "equivalent" of the Model l9, then show furthur "acceptable data " for a one time 337, decide what you want for gross wt; 1200, 1280 or 1500? How about any member from Alaska that has done this conversion?
Get familiar with ATC#696 ( BC12D) vs. ATC#1A9 ( Models 19, F-19 , F-21, etc.) You kind of want to come up with the "equivalent" of the Model F-21
Been there done that. We rebuilt sold an '81 F-21 about 5 years ago and used a perfect BC-12D fuselage to replace the badly damaged F-21 fuselage doing exactly what Forrest suggested. The N number was 2005R if you want to pull the FAA film or I might have a copy of the 337 still somewhere.
Thanks for the advice that is exactly what we will do.
little history here my dad started an air taxi on the Alaska peninsula in 1955 with a t-craft a BC-12D and today we are the largest regional carrier in the state operating SAAB 340B aircraft as our largest and the Grumman Goose as our most unique all started with a BC-12D.
My brother and I just bought N43958 and plan on reestoring it with the origanal colors and paint scheme for our 50th anniversary celebration in March of 2005 and give it back to our dad.
the bigger engine is for ski's and floats as we intend to teach our children how to fly in the same aircraft as thier grandfather started his company which now is run by me and my brother.
should be a fun project and since it is a surprise for my father it will be fun to see his reaction at our party.
anyone interested on who we are our website is penair.com

Danny- Just a suggestion- it is much easier to change to the 0-200 Continental and it will be much easier to get it approved. You are going to see a really big difference in cost and little if any difference in performance. You can probably get it done either way, it will just be alot easier with the Continental. BTW- cool website- I have a really good friend who works with Alaska Airlines- I see you guys partner with them- I may end up in AK someday.

Flying is easy- to go up you pull back, to go down you pull back a little farther.
Thats a good point and maybe we will use the O-200
what about the crankshaft mod that boosts the O-200 up to approximatly 108hp
again in my experience the more horsepower you have to get movement on the initial start of your taxi or takeoff the deeper snow you can operate in. So we are looking at an easy and affordable way to get as much horsepower as we can get on this a/c
Danny- The absolute best performing Tcraft I can think of ever seeing is a Non-electric BC12-D with an 0-200 or C-90. You can use the same mount, cowling, fuel system, and CG. A Luscombe 8E exhaust bolts right on and it really goes like heck. I had one with a little C85 on it with no electric and I routinely operated out of 600 ft fields rarely using 1/2 of the runway. You can also keep the Shinn wheels and brakes and install 800x6 tires for a little better off field capability. I have several copies of previous 337's if you need them.
When I get up there I will definately look you up! Thanks for the offer. .

Danny I haft to agree with Acroeric. Ive flown alot of t-crafts and when i built mine a 1946 bc-12d i used the C-90 with no elect. kept it as lite as i could. i have the 1500 lb gross wt increse used cessna 150 mufflers and duel supercub heat boxes, bought a y pipe for the duel heaters. It performs extremly well i have wheels floats and skes.I had everything feild approved with no problems. I think a 0-200 wold be just as good non elec. i just got a good deal on the C-90. If you need any help finding parts I can find just about anything
