    Re: Fuel Cap

I guess I don't see him making his own gas cap, or worrying about spending $37. There are TCraft owners, and then there are TCraft owners. I'm one of the former.

      Re: Fuel Cap

Don't be so quick to judge, he is not arrogant nor acts well off, which he obviously is. He has done more than many people, and has taken many basket case airplanes, rebuilt them and flown them. He knows more people in the airplane/warbird community than many of us put together and is well thought of in said communities. Current projects are a couple of PT's and a Fleet biplane. I've known him since we were kids and he has earned every penny and has ate, drank and slept airplanes his whole life, as well as worked on them. Just because he can own more than you doesn't mean he is not a "real" Taylorcraft owner. And just because he is not retired like you doesnt mean he doesn't work on them. Your comment doesn't belong on this site, and the jealousy is readily apparent. Its the "I'm the real motorcyclist because I was wearing black leather and blue jeans before everyone else" attitude. And just for you alwaysore, he owns a helicopter, too.
      Cheers,
      Marty

        Re: Fuel Cap

I guess I'd take your own advice if I were you, and nobody said he wasn't a "real" TCraft owner. I guess I should be flattered you looked up my profile. Now, calm down and make him a gas cap.

          Re: Fuel Cap

Nice rebuttal, don't be flattered I'm in the information business. And, I already found a cap from someone who actually read and understood I was looking for a ready-made cap. I must have misunderstood your double entendre of "There are T-Craft Owners and then there are T-Craft owners". So sorry. Come visit his museum sometime, the "Air Combat Museum", in Springfield, IL............
          Cheers,

              Marty,
Is he the guy that owns the flight simulator business? If so, a friend of mine from years ago use to tell about flying with him. Really great stories.

                  Re: Fuel Cap

Here's the pic I promised: Two different wing tank caps (from two different aircraft) both show a tiny hole drilled in the back of the copper tube.
The only logic for this is in case the tube gets blocked (say by an insect) then air can still flow into the tank, so preventing the tank crushing, under atmospheric pressure as the fuel level drops.

No never got to that area. The First Cav operated in the Cental Highlands in '65-'66 when I was there. I've never heard of Viking. Were you there?

                          Darryl,

That's Rudy Frasca in Urbana Illinois, Frasca Flight Simulators, about 100 miles east of me. My friend is a good friend of Rudy's and we have flown over and seen his stuff in the past. In fact, a few of us are flying over to his airport in a couple of hours for a taildragger fly-in. Rudy owns a late mark Spit, P-40, WWII Italian plane I can't remember what it is and a few of the Tora, Tora planes, amongst others in his collection. When he got his Spit several years ago he also flew in two mechanics from England for a couple of weeks to help set the plane back up. Great guys to listen to while they were putting it back together. I'm sure Rudy has some good stories.
                          Cheers,
                          Marty

Part # etc on all this old stuff. Hmm.Good luck if you find one. Some time a measurment or 2 will do. If you have 2 what loocs close and $ 5 a pc I take them and use the one what fits. open purchases so you can return the one what dont fitt. Some legg work, I know it could be a long way between tractordealers but one does best one can, it finger can't do the walking.
