Hope someone can help....A friend of mine with an L2 had a lineman not properly secure the wing tank fuel cap which promptly disappeared in flight. He is not interested in making one, as it is not worth his time to do so. (He's got several aircraft and it is literally not worth the time to have his A&P obtain the parts and make one). Does anyone have one promptly ready to sell? It is the spitting image of the ones off of my BC-12D wing tanks. It does not have the curved down 'U'-shaped tube as in the L2 blueprints on this website. They checked with Forrest, who advised a part number B12-A37, but Forrest had not gotten back with him as of yet. I have not checked the Wag Aero catalog, but know they still have a 'Ram air fuel cap', part number E-481-000, as was previously advised on this site. It is not on their website, however. I'm not sure how close this cap resembles the original Taylorcraft cap, I'll look when I get home from work. If anyone can advise that would be great also. He wants the cap ASAP and is willing to pay the price . Please let me know and I will make arrangements for purchase.

I did talk with someone working on this project, I pointed out the generic caps that needs ears soldered on and the "J" tube inserted. When I have them they are $47.50 each the main Fuel tank cap with float is $67.50. I do have a couple of them. Where oh where is the factory going on this stuff. Or, order one of the standard $6.99 caps from WagAero,drill down through the center, solder in a piece of copper tube, bend it slightly over 90 degrees, paint red, print neatly, "CAP 6 GALS", and go fly. (Be sure you align the tube with the tank neck so when you tighten the cap the tube is aimed into the wind>)Last edited by alwaysoar; 10-12-2005, 16:50.

Wag Aero does have them, and in stock when I stopped in there a few weeks back. They have the large diameter copper tube attached. Straight so you bend them yourself as needed for ram air pressure. P/N E-481-000 is the one, but I didn't try one on my tank, so can't say for sure it's a fit, but it "appears" to be right. $37.50 unpainted.Mike

Thanks all for the replys, but he needs a ready made cap, like yesterday, and I will look into those listed. He'll probably borrow one of mine if needed. Thanks for the tips on the Wag Aero, etc.

Len, the local tractor store carries a cap that seems to fit, but is way bigger than the original cap's circumference and does not look right and is probably not fitting right. Everyone keeps saying tractor parts, but no one is coming up with part numbers, brands, etc. Even after a search on this page still no part numbers or brands or models, etc. We are tractor store challenged around here, even though we live smack dab in the middle of corn/soybean country. If I had more info I could make a spare for my bird and his.

Mike, I talked to Wag Aero but the nice lady there didn't have much of a clue except they have them, page 51 of the catalog. Hard to tell what they look like from that picture, though. Might have to invest in one to see what it looks like and how it works.

WagAero p.51 E-482-000 Flange vented cap. Drill straight down through the center and solder in a copper tube at the top and where it comes through the bottom--I used 3/8 O.D. because I had some, but smaller would work and would be easier to bend. They're very easy to make so I would not spend $37--for one. Order overnight and you can be up and running very soon. You don't need the ears for them to work. Mine work well. Carl,
I agree, but you have to understand he owns about ten airplanes, including a P-51 Mustang, F4U-5N Corsair, King Air, L2, Extra 300, Beech 18, Soko Galeb jet, etc, etc. It is not worth his time to sit and fuel his aircraft. You could say he can afford to have someone else do it. His mechanic may have missed the improper cap installation. The line people usually know how to fuel his aircraft as he has had his own hangars, (large), and has been at the airport, for years. The worst part is, he doesn't have as much time as he would like, and I know for a fact the T-Craft is his favorite for plain fun flying. This guy was the one who suggested I get a T-Craft. And sorry, I'm first in line for adoption, I'll let you know if he wants any more kids.Cheers,

I was able to get a cap through another source, thanks anyway. I didn't even tell you the planes his dad has/had. He just got rid of a B-25 that I got to fly and crew chief on for several years. It was named Axis Nightmare if anyone sees it in the future. It was the second to last B-25 ever built. That was impressive, it's too bad he decided to sell it . Anyway, thanks to all.
