  • Instrument panel hole for control rod

The holes for pilot and copilot yokes in the instrument panel are different sizes. They can't wear that much, so I looked underneath and it looks like there is some kind of adjustment. Does a bushing go in there? Does a bushing go in the cockpit side of the panel to eliminate slop in the yoke? It seems if I could bush the yokes I could also eliminate the buzz I feel.

Thank you in advance for an explanation.

Ed: is it the holes in the panel that are worn, or the holes in the guides that are worn?

Photo 1 shows a view looking toward the firewall. The green guides are what I replaced the original black nylon control-column guides with.

Photo 2 shows the same view with the panel on.

Photo 3 shows the same, but from the firewall side.

I guess all I am saying is that they should be exactly the same.

Rob--You just cleared up a mystery. The holes in the panel are different sizes, but if I put in new guides, then it shouldn't make any difference. Is that correct? Where can I get new guides? I'm wondering if the guides will dampen the vibration (I call it a buzz) in the wheel.

ps. You must have to remove the entire control rod to install them. Right? Or are the guides split?

          Ed,

If you need them I MAY have a set of the bushings you're looking for. i know that I did for many years and I think they are still in the bottom drawer of my toolbox in Alaska. That's the good news, the bad news is that I'm in New York. If you call me on or after the 10th of October I will be there in Alaska to take a look to see if I in fact still have them. I suspect we can come to an agreement on the price. I bought them many years ago from the factory and sold that plane before replacing them. Give me a call @ 907-248-4088. PLease keep in mind that it's 4 hours earlier in ANC than it is in BTV. 8 am calls from VT are not welcome at 4am ANC time!

Roger, I can't believe you don't want to wake up to the jangling of a phone at 4:am when it's for a good cause! (kidding, in case it wasn't obvious) But that being the case, I will call at a respectable time. Thank you for getting back to me. Have yet to take one apart to see what they look like up close. Rob Lees pics were very helpful.

            Thanks again.
