  • Need Exhaust

Hey! I need an exhaust for my A65. I have checked with Univair and Wag-Aero, plus I have spoken with Sonny Porch (very hard to get ahold of!). They have them and Sonny can build one, but I'm hoping to save some money. I have large inventory of Taylorcraft parts if someone has one to trade.

If you can stand the hit to your pocketbook, and you can find it, get a stainless steel exhaust assembly, the single piece exhaust is a pain in the --- to put in and you don't want to ever do it twice.

      Re: Need Exhaust

There is an "unapproved" mod that cures the single-piece exhaust problem...very successful here in the UK..it involves putting a bolted flange in the rear horizontal piece parallel to the firewall, inside the heat muff. It allows each side of the exhaust (not the muff!) to be removed independantly without taking the engine off the firewall. Not FAA approved, of course.

While we were doing this mod (to 4 Taylorcraft) we had new exhausts made in stainless, and after between 500-1000 hours on each, no cracks or failures. At all.
Again, not FAA approved, but then we work under UK (not FAA) rules...I hope there is some flexibility in FAA rules to allow you to do the same.

Rob - did you document how you did the mod? - Mike
