When hand propping (I haven't had to leave my plane out of the hangar yet), I've been wrapping the rope around the tail wheel assembly itself. I do this below the arms that attach to the cables. It seems like a strong enough point. Fortunately, I havent had to test this.
But, this gets grease on the rope ( though I suppose it does clean of the TW assembly a bit).
I also like the the attachment point is in the center of the plane, so if the plane does move forward, it's a straight pull.and shouldn't have a tendency to rotate to one side or the other....or maybe it will still go to the left due to p factor, etc.
reading curious as to where others attache the rope and if there is a tie down ring that can be attacched the TW.
As a side note, I read on the hand propping thread where one member rune the rope through the TW handle, then back through a loop in the rope and up to the strut sonhe can untie from the cockpit. But then he has to leave his rope behind
What about using a longer rope, tie one end to the lower strut point where the step is, then run back through the handle to an anchor, then return through the handle to the original atrachment point? Assuming the strut attachment point is strong enough (I would hope so!) I could untie and retrieve the rope from the cockpit. The reason for running through thenh handle to along the force of and pull on the rope to the longitudinal axis of the plane.
