  • Tubing info for gear leg

I dinged up a gear leg. Its a dented tie strut and can be repaired. The IA asked me to: "See if you can get a factory drawing for the gear leg as "approved data" for the material the strut is made of and its dimensions. If it was originally 1020 steel, instead of 4130, you have to order the material certs for the tube you buy: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catal...streamline.php to prove its as good as or better than 1020."

Anyone have this info or know where to find it?

I searched the form with no luck.

Any suggestions for supporting the fuselage while the gear is off?

Put a sling around engine mount at the firewall. Use engine hoist or overhead chain lift.. DO NOT LIFT by engine lifting eye. It is not designed to lift whole plane, only the weight of engine.

AC 23.27 allows substitution of 4130.

All new approved streamlined tubing has to be ndi inspection because 4130 can crack when roll forming. So some of the old profiles are not available. Good luck to you!
