  • Door Handle Pin Hole "Fix" ...... Maybe

I say maybe because the door handle has not been mounted on the door and in use, yet.

Woody was kind enough to send me a door handle, the issues was the pin hole was wallered out from someone trying to drill the pin out. Not throwing any shade at Woody, I knew going in that this one had this issue but I thought there might be a way to "fix" it.

There were a couple ways I thought might work to fix the issue. I settled on JB Weld SteelStik. In an attempt to keep this short I'll just post some pics and I'm sure you'll follow what I did.

A 1/4 dowel inserted into the door handle and cross drilled in the in the pin location. this provided a backer for the wallered out pin hole. thin I ran a 1/8" piece of plastic (nonstick) through the 1/8 inch hole.

Packed SteelStik into the void left by the drill and let it cure.

Will it work, yep ............ will it be durable enough? I hope. I'll let you know when it comes time to install them.

Looks like that will work. The center hole was still intact. They just biggered up both sides.Epoxy is probably stronger than the magnesium. Just to be clear-- I drove the pin out with heat. Someone in the past tried to drill it :-)

One nice thing about magnesium is that it TIG welds nicely. If the epoxy doesn't work, weld up one hole, drill from the other side (handle on the shaft), then repeat for the other hole. File and sand to original shape.
