  • Windows cut and fitted !

Greetings on this eve of July 4th. Well today I gritted through South Carolina devils furnace in the hangar and got both side windows cut andfitted. Hank you probably do not remember but I snagged some really awful doors from you almost a couple of years ago HOWEVER the windows provided a super start in patterns! Cannot tell much from the pictures (hard to hold the phone and the windows by my self however they fit well! Ryan Newell is sending me some interior window frames which should be here this week.(I hacked my own up...long story)

    Happy Fourth of July all!

Outstanding! Why i never toss any parts. They ALWAYS seem to come in useful for something! Can't wait to see the final product.

    Hank

Don't forget to make a tracing and get photos of the whole process! There will be someone behind you that needs to do the same thing!

Yes templates will be here! Good point Hank!

When the window frames come am sure I will need to strip them . Will then fit the frames...take apart and prime and paint all the door item parts up through the color then put it all together.

Then on to the empenage to remove the old covering , clean sanding of the frames and epoxy coat all those pieces then mount them.

Then on to the trim cable pre rigging. Will need help on that from the tribe for sure!

Hopefully by fall will be ready to put aside the fuslage and start on the wing re build.

      All good and fun!!!

      Happy 4th!

When you mount the plexi, don't forget the outer slider goes to the FRONT and the inner goes aft (keeps you a lot dryer if you hit a bit of rain!). Both of my planes have flip up windows so I haven't had the problem but sure is funny when you see someone get out and they are soaked from mid chest up. Also one of the other guys used the fuzzy part of VELCRO strips in the groove for the plexi and it seemed to be good for holding the plexi and letting it slide easily. He also made his knob for moving the plexi from a short piece of clear plastic glued to the plexi. Seemed to work really well and the front window couldn't slide back so far you couldn't pull it back forward.

Yup. I think I am going to have the rear inner be the slider with the handle mounted to pull it at the far aft end. Seems like I could reach it from the sitting position in the plane but not sure as the seat of course is out of it.... I suppose I could set both up as sliders. Seems that sliding at the rear has more benefit than from the front. As I recall on 94984 I never seemed to recieve much benefit from the front being open.

Would welcome comment from thoughts from the tribe on this before I drill for the handle being in the rear window. Those that have the sliders would be familiar to this and may have tried it or not...
