Unfortunately, if I want to use it, I'll have to pay for the reinstall and new weight and balance. Blah.. At least I already have the parts and the STC.

If you can put a starter on without butchering the cowl and fire it up with a portable battery I am all in support of it, but I DO NOT want an engine driven electrical system. Too much weight and extra equipment is suddenly required too and I would rather carry a passenger or fuel and not go over the GW limit. The ONLY thing I need electricity for is a starter, a charger plug for a hand held (have yet to need it), a charger to keep a GPS up (if you really MUST have a GPS, wh) and lights if you want to fly at night (and t new LED bulbs draw very little current.Comment

I guess you "could" but it would involve a lot of jacking and moving leveling plates and re-checking level, all of which would make me worry about an error being introduced. I did mine with three electronic scales and did three weighs with each scale rotating to the next wheel. If the weight on any wheel changed there was a problem. Electronic bathroom scales cost less than $20 each and are WAY more accurate than the "certified" scales at my airport. By moving each scale from one wheel to the next the plane stays level through the whole process. (Yes, I checked). Each wheel was weighed with all three scales and all read the same for each scale. Took less than an hour.
