A couple wing tank questions

All,

For those of you who have had a wing tank out, what might these seemingly extra fittings be for… and is that a vent off the fill neck? There’s a grounding wire off the top of the tank but also a little loop on the bottom by the sump. The fittings don’t show up on any photos of tanks I can find (either of the new ones from spruce or wag-aero, or combing through the vb threads or FB posts) other than Terry’s 9 gallon L2 tanks.

We have got 4 wing tanks and none of them have been modified as yours - It looks like a crude vent ?

The vent off the fill neck is probably part of the Gilberti fuel mod.

It was used on the Gilberti STC. One can search about it on this site for the absolute truth about its real life need... nuff said.

that is an L2-M tank more than likely modified to be used in a bc12

There's a range of fuel system designs I've seen. Some follow the original factory C-85 mod kit's plumbing changes (I have copies). A second variation follows Gilberti's STC-SA1-210 (G-171 drawings in my case with +4" mount), and a third follows what they did for the Model 19 and F-** series that came along later. Basically in the end the main tank gets a sealed cap, vent fitting, and a mechanical fuel gauge with the C-85 plus larger fuel lines and wing fittings. The vent line goes up and splits between the two tanks if more than one is installed. Then the wing caps get forward facing vent tubes....and/or....a single inter tank vent facing forward. I'm not sure if the single vent style in Post 3 uses sealed wing caps or not.

My guess would be that the screw tab on the bottom by the sump provides and anchor for safety wire.
