Does any one have a plug number for a shorter shielded spark plug?
I have an A-65 engine on a BC12D, and as every one know the cowling does not allow for the standard shielded plug on the front top cyls.

I think REM37BY (rev D or later) is what you're looking for. 3/8" shorter than an REM40E.

The BY plugs are shorter but will not work legally in a 65 and may hit the top of the piston. Those plugs are for Lycomings mainly )-235. I am having the original bumps reproduced and hope to have them available in January. Nobody is making them aftermarket. If any body else is wanting any please send me an email off line so I can start a list.

OK, I'll have to dig further. I'm sure there is a shorter plug that's acceptable for the C-series, which uses the same plugs as the A-series.

Wag Aero recently made "bumps" available, although I'm pretty sure they are not "original".

The other option you have would be to find a couple of Breeze shield cups and run unshielded plugs. They are metal cups that shield against radio noise. They were used on many anytiques. I installed a pair on a O-200 powered '42 DeLuxe. The M41N plugs are a replacement for the C-26 or -27 and are approved in the O-200 so I did not have to put any bumps on the Deluxe for a clean install.

thanks for the replys guys, does any one know were to start looking for the shielded cups.
If that fails, I'm interrested in the bumps which the guy is making.
If anyone finds a correct short legal plug for an A-65 let me know.

              Robbie,

We use unshielded plugs on unshielded harness, and have no problem using Icom handheld with external antenna.

What radio do you have that requires those ugly cowl bumps or shielded plugs?

I have an old STS 7700 which is 20 years old, but works great.
I didn't have a problem till I replaced the old Case mags with new Bendix's. The bottom plugs are shielded and when running on the left mag only the radio is fine. It's the unshieded plugs on top which causes the problems

                  Re: shorter shielded spark plugs

I know this thread is almost a year old, but I am new to the forum and I have shielded plugs that reguire the "bump" in the cowling made out of plastic.

Does anyone know where I can purchase replacement "bumps". Mine are cracked very badly.

                  Any help is appreciated.

                    Re: Cowling "bump"s

Greg, I saw some of the cowling bumps in Anchorage, Alaska at Stoddard's Aircraft Supply. Don't recall the price: Just be sure to mention that you heard about them on the Taylorcraft forum...so they will be inclined to order in some more! Their phone: (907) 272-2327
                    fax: (907) 272-5801

I have molded plastic "bumps" that are designed for Ercoupes that may be what you need. Contact me off list at skyport @ access4less.net (remove the spaces) if you're interested.
