    Re: Brakes

To be fair; everyone has a reasonable view here: Shinn brakes were not intended for large diameter wheels.

And some of the Shinn parts, like wheel hubs, horseshoes, etc are extremely hard to come by, so if there are any folks upgrading (for whatever reason), then please let the group know that your Shinn parts are available.

      Re: Brakes

I am looking for some wheels that fit the tapered axels.
Anyone who has some available, at a reasonable price, please send an email.
I need them but I'm not in love with them.

      Thanks

        Re: Brakes

I appreciate the gesture however we don't have shinn's. We have the cleveland drums. The shin brakes sound great.

          Re: Brakes

Why don't you just put on some hydraulics and put it in Experimental

If it were that easy I'd have had a 135HP experimental Tcart for a couple years. It's a biatch to to exp!

You can get a feild app on the hydrolic brakes in alaska without any problems

Perhaps in ANC. I've been trying to FA champ gear for a year or so now, and the above experimental idea got shot down flat.

I still want to know what the weight difference is - the main point of starting this thread.

          24" goodyears?

They're actually Antique Rubber or somesuch. Much lighter than the Goodyears, much softer, a bit taller, and no valve stem to shear off (not that I have to worry with these brakes!). They're roughly equivilant to Bushwheels. I have Goodyears on the Champ - not bad if you're too poor to buy AKBWs.

get a set of 26 inch bushwheels

If they aren't STCd they probably can be in a few days. Give AKBW a call - they're great. Don't forget your checkbook....

Its not the short field issue so much the taxing

          It is for me.

Tyler - I have an extra set of wheels with 8:50s mounted on them that I might be talked out of. Make an offer.

            Re: Brakes

Anyone wishing to upgrade to hydraulic brakes -I have a set of new landing gear for a cleveland hydraulic brake equipped tcraft. They still have the parts tag with inspection approval from Tcraft dated 1993 and I think the axles are 1.5" diameter. I am only going to use 8.00 x 6 tires and like the original Shinn wheels and brakes- even in short strips like Minnis International (900ft). I [U]have not decided for sure but I may be willing to trade even for a set of like new never damaged, no corrosion original gear with good shinn wheels, brakes and tires. I have a set of original gear but one side needs a tube replaced. I would like to put those up as a spare and get a real nice set to put on as I do the restoration. Feel free to give me a call if you are interested. 336-227-8941
