Interior Door handles

    will help someone understand the post-war aluminium-faced door handle structure.

    Scott is quite right about the 1/8 scroll pins used to secure the magnesium handles to the steel shaft; there was a lot of dissimilar metal corrosion when I took mine apart.

      Ok back in town . My discussion has been about the interior door handles. .which are yes supposed to be magnesium as well however mine were replaced by some early auto brand. I have pictures of those at the onset of the post. My steel door shaft that these mount to have set screws that are screwed in or out with an allen wrench .. those screws are located where the orginal handles all would also have a hole (and still work well) . My door handles don't mount in as far as the orginals did and someone has drilled small holes further up on the shaft for its set screws (which ironically uses the same sized allen wrench) anyway I needed new escutcheons and found a pair from a 40s Ford parts catalog and show pics here of those as well as the set screws In the shaft previously mentioned. Happy as a clam with the fit. Now need to either have the handles re chromed or strip the chrome and paint them ... Click image for larger version
