What are the cup and cone numbers for both the inside and outside bearings for the tapered axle? I'm looking for Timken numbers or anyother numbers I can use with a bearing distributor to get the correct parts. The plane has shinn wheels and brakes.

    Thanks

Just bought new bearings myself. Don't have the numbers to hand, but I have them. New Timken brgs (complete with inner & outer) about £100 per axle (wow!)

Sorry, I don't have the numbers here at work, but I can get them for you if no one else responds.

Once you have the numbers, check e-bay (got my tailwheel bearings, brand new for about $5 each (cup and cone)!

But I bought my main gear bearings from MOTION INDUSTRIES

They have offices and warehouses (one or two) in every major city. I had my wife pick them up but I told her not to tell them it was for an airplane. Tell them it is for a '46 Buick.

The bearings were a perfect match, right down to the printed numbers.

not to tell them it was for an airplane.
I did too, but Boy! these darn American Buick bearings! And we only get 2000 hours per set!

Timken part numbers = taylorcraft part numbers
Motion Industries = good place to purchase same

          08231 inner race
          08125 inner bearing

          A6162 outer race
          A6075 outer bearing

Perfectly legal for owner/operator to change bearings and make log entry

          here's mine:
          I/A/W mfg manual & check list, lubed cables & pulleys, insp wheels & brakes, replaced wheel bearings P/Ns A6075, 08125, 08231, A6162
          date----- signature ----- license no.------

            Re: Wheel Bearings

Question for you guys who have dealt with Motion Industries. When you search the numbers it comes up with several bearings or races but with different letters such as PREC CUP rather then just CUP. So is it the $9.33 part or the $78.83 part? There are other prefixes shown also. I could not find a glossary on Motion's or Timken's website. We have a Motion Industries here in town and I would like to take advantage of this outlet when the time comes. Thanks!!!
            Cheers,
            Marty

              Re: Wheel Bearings

Stands for PRECision cup. Made to a higher standard. (ie: expensive)
Go for the cheap one as long as it is a Timken part and the numbers stamped on the side match.
Of the four numbers I listed, you will need one each per axle.

              08125 $19.17
              08231 $9.33

              A6075 $18.12
              A6162 $11.70

Thanks! Some of the prices were really getting up there.

                  Re: Wheel Bearings

Actually, these prices are pretty reasonable.

I would suggest going into the Motion Industries sales desk if possible. It is fun, the sales people always compare what you have and give you the exact replacement, and I always learn SOMETHING from the experience.

Wonder how long those '46 Buick bearings will be available? HA!

I agree, these prices are reasonable. Almost $80.00 is not. I have done business previously with the Motion guys, never had a problem.

I called Motion Ind. this morning and it looks like it will cost me $106 plus tax for a set of bearings for the BC12-D.

                      Hummmmm
