  • bAGGAGE COMPARTMENT FOR BC12D

    Hi

Ref the baggage compartment and rear windows on the BC12D does anyone have any idea how I should firstly mount the rear windows (I am using the one from the picture attached) and how to mount the baggage compartment canvas?

I have a new canvas but it isn't the same as the one I removed from the scrap damaged aircraft I am using as spares?

The rear windows currently are mounted on strips of wood supported off the rear fuselage frame. Click image for larger version

there should be two tabs welded on the tubes to mount a wood piece for the baggage sling. Its likely whoever installed your rear windows removed them at that time as they would be in the middle of your rear window. Your rear window is not an original Taylorcraft window but does not look bad and they do make the cabin feel bigger and let in more light. They are not really as useful as they look. When we added ours we left the baggage sling mounts since we do not have the provisions for the extended baggage. We attached our F-19 style frames with clamps around the tubes. The fabric them gets wrapped around the frames to hold them in place. ours then had an inner frame that was screwed into the outer and held the window itself in place.

This is an area of the Taylorcraft that is a mystery in terms of drawings or parts lists even for the stock setup. To further complicate things there are as many different setups as there are taylorcraft, as over the decades most have been modified in one way or another.

as Ryan says there may be tabs, but basically you'll need to build some sort of frame to support the sides and the back of the top of the baggage sling, and also attach the sling to the seat-back.
