    Re: Another Spar question

Kevin- I am pretty sure it is the use of plywood over the end of the spar- I did it on all my wings I re-built mainly because it was like that from the factory. Seems that it would serve to re-inforce where you nail the inboard rib to the spar on the ends.

      Re: Another Spar question

      Eric,
My old spars on Crispy didn't have the wood cap on the end but I did know to put one back on them when I replaced my spars. However, the plans I have say when end plate is not used bring spar to end and use"ENDTITE".That is exactly how it is worded.I just wanted to know what ENDTITE is?

        Re: Another Spar question

Keeps the end tight. That what my Missus said, anyway.

So probably a seal applied to keep the moisture out...probably in liquid form?

I just typed in "what is endtite"
try it you will like it

I think its the same stuff that looks like paint on the ends of stacks of lumber.
seems like any good epoxy should work as good if not better. I use clear penatrating epoxy made by the smith company in San rafael ca.

On second look after clicking on freepatent below it looks to be superior stuff. What say you guys

            Re: Another Spar question

End grain on spars soak up moisture and or water rapidly. That is why either a good end coating or thin plywood cap prevents moisture from getting into the spar. Good insurance. Rich Anderson

the coating that they put on the end of the spars was white lead kind of like thick paint. we used it on the of wooding pump rods in water wells. it sealed the end of the rod.the onley way to get it off cut the end of the rod off. do you have any prewar ribs full ones i need 5 +4 noes ribs. tom baker tf#25
