Hi Gary, how was the flat strap put around the spar?, was the fabric cut and it is shoved around?, just wondering, sounds like a real positive way of holding onto the wing, gary
It was on a Piper with metal spars but I assume it would be possible on a Taylorcraft as well. The straps were heavy synthetic flat braided strapping (made of nylon rope-like material) simply wrapped around the front spar in a loop with an exposed end just below the spar though the fabric. I don't recall how the loop was attached to itself to prevent uncoiling (there was more than one layer of material) but maybe a bolt with large area washers and a nut was used to gather and clamp all together.

At the exposed portion below the wing was a welded steel ring the material ran through and to which external tie down ropes could be attached. They were not far outboard from the strut attach point, but I guess they could be placed over the strut to spar brackets and upper end of the front lift strut.

I think the idea was to place the download over the spar and not through the strut attach bracket to upper spar fitting. They can and do get bent under heavy load shocks during high winds.

The Atlee Dodge Hurricane brackets I linked in #28 bolt through existing holes in the Piper spar once used for attaching sprayer arms and underwing things.

I use these which fit over the upper front strut to spar brackets: https://www.univair.com/atlee-dodge/...-down-fitting/ but pay attention during inspections to the quality of the brackets and nearby spar wood.

Maybe something like this strap could be used. Loop over the top of the spar and protect the wood from abrasion? https://www.grainger.com/product/B-A...e-Strap-10C712
