    Hi All,
Last Monday, I bought a 1941 Taylorcraft Deluxe. It has a very tired manual start Continental A-65 that my mechanic says cannot go back on the airplane until it's overhauled. I have a mid-time 85 HP and am in the process of getting the paperwork together to install an electric start C-85-12. It will have a Skytec lightweight starter and a new C-85 motor mount from Univar. Awaiting the STC from "Harer" or "Haber" (I forget his name but he lives in Jersey Shores, PA) and will go from there.
Anybody that can offer suggestions on how to get this done will be appreciated very much. Thanks!
Jose (real name is Joe Cardella)

    Howdy Joe,

Be sure to check on that long mount for the correct lower tube size. Get ready for a major project. It's not all that hard but it is time consuming as all get out.

    Good luck!
    Best Regards

I thought the old Gilbertti STC (Now owned by Harer or some such name close there of ) was only for the BC12D s ? Will it work for a BC65 ? (I knowthe gentleman that stared this post has a 41 which is a BC12 but I was just wondering ir it need to be a BC12D and if the STC will extend back to the BC65s ??

        Hi Guys,

I have the STC in front of me as I'm using the STC on my Taylorcraft.
The Gentleman that owns the STC is C. Robert Harer, 105 Valleyview Drive,
Jersey Shore, PA 17740 Phone 570-398-1364. The STC states the following,
"Conversion of Taylorcraft Model BC or model BC12D to the equivalent of the following aircraft models: A) Model BC12D85 in accordance with Gilberti Drawing List G-172, dated 13 June 1956, revised 7 April 1971. B) Model BC12D-4-85 or Model 19 in accordance with Drawing List G-171 dated 13 June 1956, revised 7 April 1971". Hope this helps.

Ditto! You have helped me much. Ol Jack Gilberti was a hell of a guy. I am glad his STC lives and he had the foresight to get the bulk of the Ts . He was a dreamer that was really trying to do some stuff outside the box. (like his own all metal for production 4 place aircraft) A hard worker for sure. Glad a guy like Harer picked up on at least some of his fruits of labor. Thank you again for the direct quotes. I am going to call Harer on Monday and get the STC for my 1940 spare that one day (after the clip) I will get around to !!

              Jose,

              Just curious...

What's NC number on the plane that you purchased? I owned a '41 deluxe, NC29688, from 1992 till 2003. I think it ended up in Colorado when I sold it. I hope it's still flying.
