  • How to index a prop

Sensenich says to index a prop by getting top dead center on #1 cylinder and then installing the prop so that blade #1 is at the 10 o'clock position. That's for a flanged crank, I assume the same for a tapered but I'm not sure. If the prop is installed according to Sensenich's instructions, then the prop is not in position to hand prop and it has to be moved clockwise two bolts to get it into position. So, what's up with that? Does anyone have any insight into indexing a wood prop on a tapered shaft?

Tapered or flanged, no different. Wood or metal, no different. The firing cylinder is also not relevant.

I always index my props so that they lie at the 10 O'Clock position at rest...the firing position then occurs at 9 or 8.
