  • Exhaust System

    Hello,
New to the Forum. Just had my exhaust pipe burn through just as it exits the cowl and think I may need a complete muffler and exhaust system for my BC12D. Any ideas as to where I might find a new system. I looked in Wag-Aero, Univair, and Aircraft Spruce and find nothing. Wag Aero does list exhaust system components but not sure if this is a complete system or just the muffler. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

        Howdy Dick,

Go to the Barnstormer web site. Then search for exhaust systems. You will fine Sonny Porch in FL. He will build you a new system.
        Best Regards

Dick, try a Search using Exhaust as the keyword. The Search feature brings up three pages of stuff.

The Search feature is in the first blue line of options, below the picture of the yellow Taylorcraft header.

Recommend that you have a stainless steel replacement.

Have you called anybody on rebuilding your exhaust?
Aerospace Welding in Minneapolis or Fort Lauderdale might be able to rebuild your system. Try 1-800-597-4315 www.awi-ami.com & [email protected]
              Hope this helps.

                Re: Exhaust System

I just looked at my exhaust for my T-craft which is totally dismantled for rebuild, and I don't have a "Muffler" in my exhaust system. Mine looks just like the one pictured in Aircraft Spruce on page 209, in Wag-Aero page 74 and in Univair.
Dick, any idea where the muffer came from. Can you disassemble your exhaust or do you have to loosen the engine bolts to get it out?
I would like to have a "Muffler" on my T-craft. Anybody else have a muffler on there T-craft?

                  Re: Exhaust System

The A, B, and F19 series never had "mufflers" that I know of. I have seen some aftermaket, possible stc'd instalations on a few of them though. The L2 planes might have had one?

                    Re: Exhaust System

                    Howdy Don,

Taylorcrafts do not have mufflers!(excpt for the F21,22's) This is a misnomer. They do have, however, an exhaust system. It is pretty much two formed single pipes comming from each side of the engine with a cross-over pipe attaching the two together with a single drop. There are 4 welded on flanges which provide the ends for the heat muffs to wrap around. A short & a long.
Works great!! (except for the heater muff which will only warm the cabin to freezing on a cold day)

I do not beleive that there is an STC for mufflers but I'm not sure.
                    Best Regards

                      Re: Exhaust System

Mufflers are pretty much required here in Switzerland, even for small continental engines. Check http://www.hliese.de/International/international.html

They are LBA certified, the German equivalent of FAA STC.

Sorry about the muffler statement. Does any one have Sonny Porch # in FL?
I talked to my AI and he advised me to go stainless.

                          Howdy Dick,

Sunny used to have an ad on barnstromers. I have'nt looked lately but I would suspect it's still there. It seems like I saw somewhere on this forum that someone used him for an exhaust but I'm old and am starting to remember things whether they happened or not, so I could be mistaken.

This is Sonny's e-mail and tel no. I do have a set of his exhaust system, second I purchase from his. A very nice person and backs his products. I have mine all installed now, with the new heat shrouds. Will put additional pictures soon. But for now I believe I have some in the photo gallery under yellow duck. If not I do have some on my site:

Go there for my last group of pictures. It really looks good. Had to do very slight modification, but he now has that corrected.
