For a person who puts on a shoulder strap every time I get in the car, I forgot entirely about using a single cross-chest strap and focused entirely on the 'Y' configuration!. Duh.

      Re: Shoulder harness?

      Mike,

I have the Hooker Harnesses with the 'Y' strap with metal fittings on the end of each shoulder strap. They slide onto the lap belt tang before you push the tang into the belt buckle. They are made for this and fit perfectly. Hope this answered your earlier question.

The installation of the shoulder belt was easy and didn't cost much at all. I will try and post the pictures which show the attach point on the aircraft and the seat belt.

        Dear Michael:
We can't sell shoulder strap by it self. And the buckle assembly shown in
the picture is not a Davis belt.
Sorry that we can not be of help.

        Good morning.

An acquaintance advised you have a simple over the shoulder restraint which
has a lower end attachment that fits over the seatbelt tongue. See attached
picture. The nomenclature "FDC-7275-74-1-080" may be associated with this
        assembly.
Please provide a price for a right and left shoulder restraint. This will
        be installed in a Taylorcraft.
        Michael Horowitz

        Any suggestions? - Mike

            Re: Shoulder harness?

I called Davis Restraints yesterday and received a drawing of a shoulder restraint that does not at all look like the one in the picture that Alan emaied me. The strap is different and the buckles are different. Furthermore, they faxed me an agreement to sign if I purchase the straps. The agreement states that THE SHOULDER HARNESS ASSEMBLIES ARE A NON-TSO/NON-PMA APPLIANCE AND SHALL NOT BE USED ON TYPE CERTIFICATED AIRCRAFT.

I have not had the time to call Davis back, but it seems to me that the pictures that Alan sent me are exactly what I am looking for and that any shoulder restraint is better than none at all.

I personally would be very happy with Alan's shoulder restraint system. Does any Taylorcraft Tribe member have any ideas about how to proceed further toward getting these shoulder restraints? I will be calling Davis Restraints tomorrow and will let all members know what Davis tells me.

            Thanks,

            Frank

Their web site seems to indicate they are willing to sell the seatbelt attach hardware and the adjustors. That and an upholstery buddy ...

                Thanks Wayne,

I was writing my message while you were sending yours. There is a parachute club at my airport. I will check out this angle and let all know what I find out from a parachute rigger.

                  Re: Shoulder harness?

                  To all:
The lady at Davis was probably correct that they don't sell a "shoulder strap by itself". We didn't buy just one strap, we purchased a shoulder harness (two straps) and used one on each side. The AI (IA - which is it?) said my existing seat belts were ok to use (I will check to see who manufactured them) and the set up fits fine. How he got just the shoulder straps and not the belts, I don't know (maybe he ordered the whole sheebang and split them up). I suppose I don't care so long as it got signed off by the local FSDO - more than being better than nothing (which it is), it is the same style we have in our (no gasping now) club 172, except that we have the full harness (two shoulder straps) for each of the front seats and my recollection is that, when we had the shoulder harnesses installed in the 172, we didn't have to replace the belts. No wonder life in the ga lane can be confusing.

                    Re: Shoulder harness?

Mike, I have had my Hooker harness wrapped around the tube and they have worked great (never in a violent crash mind you) As far as the headliner I did what another gentleman suggested earlier..Went to a local fabrisc store, purchased a foot of vinyl (dark gray to compliment the lighter grey headliner), used pinking shears to cut the edges slit the portion where the belt goes and used a good adhesive to glue it to the fabric. Best of luck here. Have fun this is an easy deal.

Well, if I can purchase the shoulder straps alone, it will be easy!
Otherwise I would have to fabricate them and although that's also easy and fun, it will envolve more work than a simple phone call to Davis. - Mike

Huh say what Mike???? Fabricate Harness ?? Who is Davis? Is he with (or is)Hooker ?? You must be confusing or somhow mixing my post with the one immediately above it. My e-mail stating it was an easy fun deal was (as I stated ) I used Hooker Harness and yes I assumed duh ... that word ...ASSumed you were simply going to purchase the whole system. If not then you are not. I had a pleasant fun and yes simple time with it. It was not expensive either. I do not understand all the banter about it frankly. I see posts about purchase of one strap etc. This is kind serious stuff here. The few bucks ones spends with Jack Hooker are well worth it in my book . Best of luck to you on this Mike.
