    Re: gasculator

Sal, this one isn't cheap, but it's one of the best I've seen...it's metal, no glass...and approved for a heap of Taylorcraft models. http://www.stevesaircraft.com/gascolator.htm Dick

Are glass bowls legal? In Canada they are not!

Sal, I think Donna Losey has some glass gascolator replacements (or she used to). Try [email protected]

IMHO, the glass ones are better...you can see inside.

              Howdy Sal,

I didn't say this but you might try your local Ford Tractor dealer and tell them you need a gascolator bowl for an 8N or 9N Ford tractor. No kidding. If you have the original gascolator it should fit but I didn't say this.

Check out Ford8N.com They have gascolators, glass bowls, gaskets, etc. Good, tractor type parts prices. Of course, you would never use tractor parts on an airplane.

                    Re: gascolator (merged)

I looked at the Ford Tractor site and that gascolator is different than the one on my plane. Mine is a Tollotson from Toledo, Ohio. The bottom is stamped LaTour Aero. The glass appears longer than the tractor one.

                    Questions:
Does anyone have this type of gascolator?

Is there supposed to be a spring assembly that holds the screen in place at the top of the gascolator? An IA here told me that there should be to prevent fuel from short circuiting the screen.

If so, any idea where I can get one?

                    Thanks, Bob

                      Re: gascolator (merged)

                      Bob,
From someone who has had to put it down in the pickle weed. Don't scrimp on the gas filtering system. The vertical feed tube for the midrange power in the 65/85 carbs has a very tiny hole at the bottom and you don't want any crap sucked up into it, believe me.
I don't personally know about the STC'd one discussed here, but if mine didn't work well, I would probably invest in one. It looks pretty good and should last forever (well almost.) And it will make your AI happy as a clam.
If I remember correctly my screen is sealed and held by an "O" ring.
By the way, on the BC12D-85 I have now, the gascolator was installed backwards when I bought it, so the garbage would collect on top of the screen rather than settling to the bottom. Everything about the plane was that way, hamfisted. Fortunately nothing that would kill you right away and it made it 400 miles home ok. Took about 6 months to get everything straightened out. Sure flies nice now.
