  • Elbow to connect to plugs???

I bought two of the shorter shielded plugs for the top two, forward-most cylinders. I haven't installed them yet because I still have the old harness in place.

I know the shorter plug will probably offer the cowling clearance even with the straight connector on the new connector, but I was wondering if an elbow connector, seperate from the harness is available? (wish I spent as much time playing "what if" when it came to flight planning!).

Just to clarify - I know some harnessess have elbow connectors at the 'plug end: what I'm looking for is a seperate part, like a 90^ coax connector, that will screw into the shielded plug and at the other end, receive the straight harness connector. - Mike

    Mike,
Tell me, please, please, PLEASE, where did you get the short shielded plugs? Is there really such a WONDERFUL item out there that would keep me from having to cut holes in my cowling to install clearance bumps?

Yeah you're looking for a high-voltage shielded elbow adapter. Sounds familiar, but can't remember ever seeing one for sure. I would be interested in that also.

Re: Elbow to connect to plugs???

Darryl - I can't take credit for finding the plug. Forrest has mentioned it several times. I don't have the plug here, but it ends with a 'BY". There was some concern that it wasn't approved for the A-65, but my A&P was satisfied when he saw that Champion had it on their 'approved for' list.
Should be able to let you know within two week how it fits with in-line wires.
I do believe these wires were advertised as being able to make short radius turns. I'll take pics when I get them installed, possibly Friday. There is also apparently a difference in clearance between one Tcraft and another. I dunno. - Mike

        OK,
I see a REM37BY Champion listed at one of the almost local airparts stores. I always forget what is a cooler and what is a hotter number as I haven't worked on high output engines for about 15 years. I have 40's and 41's in my 85 now. Seem to work ok. I'll have to check my continental printout; as I remember I was surprised at how wide a range of numbers were approved by it.
        Thanks,
        Darryl

I asked my A&P if he was at all concerned that the plug ran cooler.
          Nope, sez he - Mike
