  • Sun-n-Fun and Tail Wire Question

    Hello all,
Just returned to Virginia from moving my Tcraft from Virginia to Florida. N43752 arrived at South Lakeland airport (X49) Monday the 12th. I have a hanger there and will be relocating soon to new home in Lakeland. 9 flying hours and 7 fuel stops, but not any big problems. Did get to Sun-n-Fun on the 13th but only saw one Tcraft and no one I knew.
I recently did my BFR in the Tcraft and the CFI said he thought the tail wires were on the loose side. The service manual says snug but not too tight, a low bass tone is good. Does anyone else have a more exacting way to set the tension? Thanks......

Re: Sun-n-Fun and Tail Wire Question

I was there at Sun N Fun from Sunday-Sunday! I was parked in GAC though...saw another t-craft...cream and red in VAC. Long fly for me too...29.5 hours ttl flying time. Bucked headwinds there and back...but, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

    Sorry I missed ya,

    Suzy

Re: Sun-n-Fun and Tail Wire Question

The tail wires are snug to a low G when all are set up correctly . Remember in flight there is a down load on the tail. Sooooo I check the tension by pressing down gently on the stab and seeing that the lower wires are still snug. And thats it folks.....
I hope you all made the forumn on Friday , I really only got into the field that morning and would not have made SNF if not for Bob Ollerton , Joe & the many friends in the Taylorcraft tribe, plus having committed to the forumn . I had many other things going back here. State of Ohio meeting , other family members health problems, business to run and studying for my State of Ohio Auctioneer test. Took it last Friday, no results yet. AND I would do Sun-n-Fun again in a heartbeat..... great to meet a lot of the tribe.... see u all at the Fly-In in July at Alliance....

Re: Sun-n-Fun and Tail Wire Question

While there at Sun N Fun I became an inventor...A turbulence indicator (bobble head dog) and I designed a great rudder gust lock...worked fine until the night wore on....

            Hey Gnflyn,
I used to have 20 acres in Green Swamp just north of Lakeland from 85 to 88. I transitioned into ultralights at south Lakeland in 86. I kept my ultralight at Ivy Cannon's farm & U/L field while I set up the runways at my place. I used to be a member of the EAA chapter at Gilbert field in Winterhaven. If you get out to Gilbert field, please say hi to Grover Summers, owner of Gator Aviation for me.

              Taylor Maid,
Nice bird.I like the rudder stop idea but like you said,it wouldn't work very long around here either.
