    If it's a flanged shaft, the flange (per the type certificate data--available on the FAA website) is 5 1/2 " in dia with 6 equally spaced holes (.621 dia) on a 4.375" bolt circle.

      Sorry about the confusion on the crank shaft engine holders guys. I completly forgot about the flanged crank engines till Mike sent me an off group message. All the engines I have worked on are taper shafts.
      I really like the garage wall engine mount idea. Plenty of space between the fasteners to react the forces and it just hangs from the wall to work on it. Just don't get tempted to use it for a test stand. The wife won't like the noise and who wants a garage slowly rotating on its foundation? Plus, my garage has an awful lot of paper and books around. The place would look like a tornado hit! ;-)

        Hank - your visualization is correct. And I can see the physics that are causing you concern. What if instead of just bolting the "prop" to the arms, I put a 2x4 (the width of the 'prop') on top of the 'prop', in effect sandwiching the 'prop' between the 2x4 and the arm? Of course everything is bolted to the arm and I'm using the largest washers I can find. - Mike
