  • RSS feed from the Taylorcraft Forum

Just to mention this again, the Forum does have an RSS feed. Whats that?

see www.rssreader.com for one of many clients you can download. Of you check for new stuff at several web sites, this is a way to select what you want to know about and then let the rss client tell you when there is something to see.

Its also built into Firefox and Thunderbird. The ipod people are all over this stuff.

Those of you that prefer to have a list of whats new to pick from, similar to the old mail list, will like this. you can run the client in the background and have it pop up and tell you when there is something new.

Other uses is for local weather updates (daily, hourly, etc) (www.rssweather.com) or for you artists out there try www.npr.com

A lot of the news sites are doing rss as well.

Here is the help text from VB, with the url for rss, you could copy this to your clipboard and then select "add" in the rssreader to subscribe... its easy, even Forrest can do it.

    ================================================== =====
Where can I find the RSS feed?
The administrator (HAS) have enabled RSS syndication, this allows you to view newly created threads in guest viewable forums without visiting the board.

The feeds are currently provided in two formats, RSS and RSS v2. The differences are as follows:

RSS 0.91 - This feed is based on a standard written by netscape and provides a link and the title of the thread.

RSS 2.0 - This feed contains title, author, date and the contents of the first post of the thread.

To add this to MyYahoo click here.

The forums to which this applies can also be limited to specific guest viewable forums by adding another paramater to the URL containing the forumids as follows:

If you would like the content to be generated for multiple forums you can seperate the forumids by commas.

      Absolute gobbldegook to me.

"RSS Feed" means something about animal feed (and the less said about sheep, the better)
"Clients" are my customers who pay money.
"Firefox" was a film with Clint Eastwood and some crappy aerial footage
"Thunderbirds" was a brilliant puppet show in the 60's by Anderson (a BRIT).
"I-pod" is something from the War of the Worlds
"RSS syndication" is a Mafia term

Sorry, Bob, is there a plain English version of this? I am totally lost.

my are'nt we fiesty today. And to think you guys sent us cars that used Wentworth fastners and we still import your beer.

        Here are some references:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(protocol)

Uncover the history and fundamentals of XML, understand its distinction from HTML, and delve into its real-world utilization in data exchange.

I pretty sure there has to be some British contribution to RSS in there somewhere.

Really, the best way to understand what it does is to download the client, subscribe to a syndicated feed and see what it does. Its worth it.

Darn; there goes the day. I had planned on scrubbing my floorboards with MEK, locate some AL primer, then spraypaint them with white Rustoleum, or at least get everything together; then comes your article.

So as I understand it, if the website that covers transgender bathroom issues has an RSS feed, I can install a reader, subscribe to the website and everytime there is something added (as in an new article), I'll get some metadata about the article and a hyperlink/pointer to same; right? And it won't come in via my e-mail reader, but via an 'RSS reader"?

And this capability extends to the newsgroups also, so I can be advised anytime a new message is posted to alt.fan.harry-potter or to rec.food.cooking? - Mike

OK - I gotta run and buy bagels, but....
It shows me the current headlines or articles posted; I can press "clear" and the dissappear, then I press "get" and they re-appear. Shouldn't they present only the material since the last time I requested headlines? - Mike

                Mike, you got it!

You can let the headlines stack up (you can set the # of days you want it to keep), or you can "mark them read" if you want. You can also set the frequency it checks for updates; a trade off of your need for instant updates and the overhead on the web sites. 15min to an hour seems good.

Click on the headline and you can pop open a browser to see the whole story.

Yes, there are RSS feeds from cooking and recipie web sites! Answers that question "whats for dinner tonight"

Perhaps what I should have said was that I do not understand how this affects websites and the forum. (or indeed flying Taylorcrafts).

just a different way of doing the same thing.

You could put down your beer, click to bring up the web browser, click to bring up the forum, and then click on quick links and new posts. Then be disapointed that there are no new postings from your favorite people.

Or you could keep the beer in your hand(s) and wait for rss reader to detect that a new posting has occured, read the headline and decide if its from your favorite people, and then put your beer down and click on the rss link to the posting knowing that you will soon be presented with a fine forum posting to be read. The rss reader even can be set to play a delighful sound file to give you an audio notice that there is something new to look at. I have mine set to tucker's bay.

I can provide you with a similar .wav file if that would help. I have been using one of those Japan invented language translators on it.
I am still working on it, but I think he is saying "hey hey hey! look a racoon in the yard, wow! Hey! Hey! scratch my belly, Yes!, look at the bird, bird, ahhhh, wait, wait no, stop, I gotta pee. No I dont, lets go sniff the cats ass..."

Re: RSS feed from the Taylorcraft Forum

Well, if you want to keep an eye on several sites and be informed immediately if something is added (I'm thinking of the Tcraft site, or more important a news feed, or several blogs) and they are RSS compatible and on your 'watch list', then your news reader will search each of those site as frequently as you wish and provide you with a list of anything that's been added.

A variation on this is to go to GOOGLE and in the advanced section, build an 'alert'. I'm not sure how frequently GOOGLE does it's searching, but if you set the alert to search for 'Cohiba', it will send you an e-mail everytime it finds that term. I have several alerts which search sites for mention of specific trials, so I can keep up with their status.

I have elected to spray my aluminum floorboards (I MEK'ed them to shiney metal) with grey primer, and then spray with white Rustoleum. There, see, we're back on subject.

White is one of Tucker;s favorite colors.

along with brown. black, red, and Kelli Belle lemon yellow.

His brown matches the UPS drivers uniforum. Which he mentions frequently to the driver every time he has a chance.

Now see, if you had RSS you would know better than to read this again!

Well it all sounds fine and dandy. I'm on dial-up, Win 98, no speakers, no irreverent pop-up's, beer holder as standard, etc, and all my (few) pals in the good ol' US of A still seem to be able to get hold of me (and me of them).

I'll take a peek this week when I'm on the company Broadband ASDL thingy, and then pass any further comment.

But I will still insist on my Taylorcraft having a front window through which I can see to decide what action I should take to procure a safe and satisfying landing.
