96924 ('46 BC-12D) is a few weeks away from a nearly total restoration, including new Poly Fiber throughout and a top overhaul on the A-65. The project did not come wtih a propeller. After searching this site for information, it seems that the Sensenich W72CK-42 is the right one. We will fly out of Albuquerque, NM (the other mile-high city). We'll go to 8,000' or more for trips. Temps (when we'll fly) will range from 30 to 100 degrees F. Weather is typically severe clear. Does anyone have any thoughts about whether this is the right prop for this situation? Thanks for all the advice that has been given over the last year and a half for this great restoration project. Bob

Re: What Propeller?
Bob, I have N 96910. Pretty close to yours.
The prop sound about right to me. I have used several different pitches and am now using the Mac 74/41. Out of a short strip and hot and humid weather. However I am thinking about a 72/42 wood. Love the wood for looks. And they work almost as well as the metal ones.
Sound like you pretty much have it wired. Good luck.Lee

Re: What Propeller?
I just got a new/used mac. for my A65 powered BC12D. I need to have it re-pitched from the 74-48 to a 74-43 or -42 . What kind of rpm can I expect to see on takeoff with a -43" pitch. Is 2300 rpm while straight and level a posibility, and if so what can I expect for a top speed at 2300 rpm with a 74-43?

Re: What Propeller?
Jason:
I have a metal Mac 74-45, which I find to be a good all-round prop for my A-65 operations between 0 and 5000 feet amsl. I get about 2050 rpm static, 2100 take-off.
Sounds like your -43 or -42 will be be very much a climb prop which might be OK for high or heavy stuff, and will give excellent climb performance...
...but unlikely to provide 100 mph cruise.
Mind you, the prop you have might be too short in diameter to get this pitch. Is it a clipped prop? Ignore the "74" number, get a tape measure and measure the diameter.

Re: What Propeller?
Bob,
Something else you might want to consider when selecting a prop is the weight difference between wood and metal. When I removed the old wooden prop from my 85hp BC12D and went with a new Sensenich metal prop I lost 13# of useful load. That's pretty substantial but it probably did allow the baggage compartment to be loaded just a "tad" over the 50# limit and still be in the acceptable CG range!
