  • YES! Beautiful Snow Conditions!

Went out and flew around just enjoying the sunshine and perfect snow...!
All done to my own version of "The Hallelujah Chorus". You can land just about anywhere. Saw some wolf tracks going down this snowmachine trail.
The daylight is starting to last long enough in the late afternoon that you can get something done. It's like somebody threw the switch...ski wx is here!
You just keep the plane covered up and ready to go. I really feel blessed to be living here, but some days(like this one) are certainly special! Dick

Flew out to the cabin the other day was also perfect snow. Seen 6 wolves on the yetna river. Now till brake up will be the best ske flying. We should have a fly in. Mabe meet at the yetna and watch the sled dogs go by on there way to nome. Its same day airborn for carabu now. Iliamna way. I always try to go at least once or twice on skes before brake up.

Could you please describe the picture on the right?

Lance , Dick, Loved the pictures. Have to admit it sure is beautiful.

Have a friend (son-in-law's brother) lives & works in North Pole AK.

But Lance, How do you get the thumbnail pictures attached and then are able to open to full size, Loved both of your pictures.

Thank, here in Louisiana we never have that. Also Lance, who is your passenger ? lol

The pic on the right is one and a half carabu. The other one and a half is in the baggage comp, the reason it still has the hide on is it was 15 below zero. We have a hunting season up here where you can fly the same day you fly. Just find a herd of carabu land in front of them pick out the ones you want. Home the same day.

I need help from you cold country outdoors folks. The bulb on my outboard motorboat tank gets so hard in cold weather it does not work. Where do you get a bulb that works below freezing> Rich Anderson a duck hunter

Rich we have the same problem up here what i do is take the fuel line with the bulb out of the boat. Then when im ready to go i put the warm fuel line on and go. Once your out on the lake or river theres not much you can do unless theres a way to warm it up!! I have seen people up north where its 30 below use two hot packs and two rubber bands that holds them on the bulb. Dick shure was a nice day today 38 and clear.

                  Hi Guys,

I finally was able to get the plane I bought down from FAI yesterday. It was three hours and 20 minutes to get it to Merrill Field. I flew down on wheels and the skis arrived today via air freight. I hope to have my bird on skis within the next several days and would love to get together with you guys for some ski flying. Hey Lance, I used to own your plane....N43873. I have owned several so I'm not sure if that was my first one or second one but I believe I bought it in Fairbanks back in 1979. It had a 75hp engine then. Is it still a 75 or has it been re-engined?? It sure ooks a lot prettier now than when I owned it!

                    Hi Roger,

Are you basing the plane at Merrill? I had a spot there on the ski strip when I had a Cessna 120 on skis. Now I have a T-Craft located over on Lake Hood. I'd like to meet up with you for some ski flying. I was out practicing on a lake by Pt. McKenzie the other day and saw a wolf. He wouldn't stay long enough for me to get a photo though. My # is 349-2907. Steve

The Taylorcraft tribe in Alaska seems to have a lot of fun all the time. I do know it can be a hard life too!!
Can someone jump over to my Ski Planes thread under Daily discussion and give good advise on 1500's, vs. Federal SC-1 and any others you fellows are using. Do you ever use the tail skis ?
I have two of them here and promise to post pics soon. Real busy with IA renewal and getting ready for an Auctioneering School.

Lance, easier said then done. A long ways from South Louisiana to AK. Take a while in a T-Craft. But if I had some large enough , I might try it. It would be an adventure.

Lets see by T-Craft or Harley. Hmmm, another thought ! lol
