  • Aviation Art

Guys- I have a bonus room in the new house that I am decorating in true man style. I plan to put all my fish, deer, etc on the wall but I also want to use some bush flying type artwork or old photos. If anyone has any suggestions on where to look please let me know. I am also going to be looking for a caribou skin or similar.

I already have an old spar out of a '38 as a place to hang family flying photos from and a new gun safe on the way.

Flying is easy- to go up you pull back, to go down you pull back a little farther.

try the library of congress website. search for aviation photographs. They have everything from civil war balloons to space program. Many are in public domain. Download and print the ones you like on good quality paper, then frame 'em.

      Eric,
I have a friend with a framing shop who can take any (non-copyright) picture and put it on canvas to look like a painting. I was looking to do something close to your idea for my hangar. I seem to remember the cost for the frames was worse than the pictures. If there is interest I could check on what a run would cost. I'm betting we could get a discount on multiple copies. The one I wanted was the cover shot of Tom Bakers 41 in cream and maroon (same colors as mine will be if I ever finish it).

Boy that's an open ended question...but for Bush Planes try the following...

Excellent work and the backgrounds aren't all in the mountains...where everyone else seems to think is the place that bushplanes still fly.

For the artist in all of us!!!
Canvas floorcloths are making a comeback.
Check out this site for 'how-to':

check the links on this page for more ideas.

Could use most image editing programs to create a paint-by-number template of your favorite aircraft scene. Transfer scene to canvas and paint.

            Re: Aviation Art

Eric, you might want to order one of these used copies of Bush Pilots of Alaska, by Kim Heacox & Fred Hirschmann...no sense in ordering a new copy as it will be pored over some much it will look used anyhow! It's a coffee table type book that will add to any pilot's hangout. This link should let you check out several offerings in varied condition.

PS Don't get too attached to that house...you know the North has got a hold on you...! Yesterday, the neighbor pulled up in his pickup...there was a lynx, a coyote and a wolf in the back end. He traps locally and is pretty good at it. Dick

Dick-Thanks for the suggestion. I have seen that one before and I will most definately pick one up.

As for wanting to go to Alaska- I am definately going to be there someday. I know that I would love it and probably stay forever-

                Eric,
The temp in Alaska is almost always cold, great flying weather can be hard to find, and if ya have engine trouble it's almost always a LOOONG walk to anywhere......but if I had the oppertunity,I'd move there in a heartbeat!!It's a great place with great people.
