Hope it all works out. I'd try the covers for a fit before committing to a mold just to see....well that's just my way of dealing with things like this.

              Re: bungee covers

Randy at Carbon Concepts took delivery of the bungee covers and is starting right in on production of several sets. He will retail them at $35 each or $70 a set. According to Randy, the FAA asks that a log book entry is made when installing his fairings.

Fred, thanks again for the loan of the covers. Randy will keep them pristine. I let him know that you would likely contact him with an order. I would be happy to deliver them to you in Anchorage when complete. I always find things to do when in town.

Glad it worked out, and great to meet another Taylorcraft owner.

Here is a link to the thread Marty posted about David Wenglarz. He does excellent work.

                      Jim,
Maybe we can see if Randy can make hubcaps, if there is an interest. I have an original set I could loan, what say the tribe?

Anyone know if there were hubcaps on the '41 DeLuxe? I certainly don't have them.

                          Re: bungee covers

There's some pics in Chet Peek's book that show them installed. Looks like they screw into the end of the axle. But I'm no historian.

Edit: that was a dumb assumption...screwing to the end of the axle would prohibit the caps from turning with the wheel. Good we found out about the wheel attachment.

Most of the Deluxes had wheel pants, but if they did have a hub cap it would be of the center screw type. The quickest way to tell if a pre war had hub caps is to look at the wheel. There will be a small hole in 3 of the ribs just outside of the bearing. There was a little 3 legged spider that the hub caps attached to.

I have an Ace that was converted to a BC-12D. My hubcaps have three holes to engage the nuts on the Firestone Shinn wheels. It has a rolled edge, so moving these in metal would be prohibitive. IMHO.....

I'm not sure when they changed to the three hole hubcaps. The pre war hubcaps were basically identical, except for the smooth dome and single hole.
