  • Stick type control

In one of the prewar Taylorcraft advertisements, I recall seeing what was called a stick control that was just an upright post attached to the control shaft where a yoke or wheel would normally be. I have also seen mention of it in the type certificate. Has anyone ever seen one or used it. Of all of the Tcarts I've looked at on the Internet I've never seen one.

One of the guys here reproduced it, and if I remember correctly didn't like it. I am sure he will comment when he sees this. I've never seen one in-person or in-use.

And T-Carts is a derogatory term for the old girls. lol

      Re: Stick type control

I made one from the factory drawing, and installed it in my 1941 BL. It actually has a guide that mounts below the instrument panel. I flew the airplane to Sun'nFun 1995 with it installed. Most of the time I flew reaching across to the control wheel on the other side. When I returned home I removed it and never used it again. It is a neat idea, but it doesn't work very well.

Thanks for the responses. It looked like an iteresting idea to me, but it sounds like it doesn't work that well. I guess that is why you don't see them in use very much.

I built 2, and still have one of them. I don't remember who the other one was sold to, it was over 20 yeats ago. I have never seen another one in person. The only pictures I have seen were the advertisement, and Alliance Library archives.

Forrest has a couple assemblies laying around that Taylorcraft had experimented with. I saw them when I was out there a few weeks ago. They where of the type that mounted down under the floor and you'd have to figure out how to get your leg lifted over when getting in and out.

There was a guy in Michigan making them. I went to see a project he was working on & a plane he was selling 10 years ago.
