Re: Prewar vs postwar flying charecteristics

As it was a research or test flight I doubt there would have been bombs aboard. I remember several times we lost bombers with bombs aboard (the one off the coast of Spain being the worst one) but don't remember anyone saying anything about the Ogden crash involving any kind of weapons.

I'll see if I can find the article, seems like the Navy was called in for a weapon removal, but that was along time ago, and I could be thinking for something else, thanks for the update, gary

[QUOTE=Hank Jarrett;96721]I know it was in late April with either one or two casualties (at least one survivor) but I think it was a civilian crew of test personnel from the factory. LOOONG time ago so I certainly don't remember details. My father was with SAC back then, but the Omaha newspapers told us a lot more than my dad ever could. Of course we all know that newspapers are a great source of accurate information.

        Your right Hank, found this
        58-1023
4-22-60 29 58-mile NW Ogden, UT; accident cause was loss of flight control during normal flight due to mach/airspeed data system failure; Convair pilot Ray E. Tenhoff (fatal); Convair test engineer Walter Simon (fatal); Convair test engineer Kenneth G. Timpson (survived). I think I remember one of the divers saying if the ejection seat went off while they were near, it would be the end of them, gary

Holy CRAP! I can't believe I remembered this from 1960! I was only 8 years old then. I really was an airplane nut as a kid (Still think I'm a kid and still an airplane nut!)
