Yes, so far all the screws I've installed get a dab of chromate paste (bolts and nuts too). All will be fine. I guess this all boils down to my general dislike of self-tapping screws... runs counter to what I learned.

As I said in my original post, the motivation for using screws is largely cuz it's easier. Unlike Taylorcraft, I don't necessarily need easy.

And the winner is....
AN470AD rivets.

Here's what sealed the deal: The leading edges had apparently been removed at least once before so I already had some double holes and all were dash 6 screw-holes. So I could have used tinnerman nuts in the oversize holes, or made new holes, but new holes would end up further forward which may not hold the aft edge of the skin tight against the ribs.

I found that a 1/8" rivet would not quite fit the existing holes. So I made a hole-finder and picked up the existing holes with a 1/8" drill bit (which cleaned up the rib holes nicely while removing almost no material).

Anyway I'm pleased with the result. all the rivets went in easily and I now have nice smooth fasteners that will not need anti-chafe tape (along with all the other advantages of using solid rivets instead of PKs).
