  • Does anyone know what movie N96012 was in?

Interesting movie about remote Alaska and several clips of this airplane. "Alone in the Wilderness" the story of Dick Proenneke, its on PBS right now.

Bob Swerer Productions presents Alone in the Wilderness, the story of Dick Proenneke building a cabin in the wilderness using only basic hand tools.

Tim, here is another link to the Proenneke story. The info in this clip is pretty accurate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BERbQwrtit4
I was in the cabin in the late 70's. Met Mr. Proenneke on several occasions. My wife and I were in the office of the Park Superintendant after Proenneke left due to age and health concerns. He reached under his desk and pulled out a cardboard box with all of the journals Dick kept. He was using them to produce an accurate account of the whole Proenneke story. The boys, Sig and Leon, mentioned in the latter part of the clip, lived next to our place in Iliamna when they were going to elementary school in Newhalen Village.
The Taylorcraft you asked about, N96012, was used by Babe Alsworth and his boys, to haul Dick to and from Twin Lakes. They also hauled stuff in and out as needed. I spent a couple of hours yesterday with one of the Alsworth boys who did some of the flying. He told me the plane was destroyed in a hangar fire at Port Alsworth. I got to fly in it with Babe Alsworth and also with his son. Here is a pix of Babe Alsworth and the Taylorcraft, N96012.
