  • N170TX Taylor Sport

After a rather convoluted thought process, I managed to go from the discussion of L2 blueprints to wondering what has happened to N170TX. The Taylor Sport built by the factory in an attempt to enter the SLSA market. The plane has been discussed a number of times here on the forum. As I remember, many on the forum, myself included, believed the paperwork needed to register and get an airworthiness certificate would be a nightmare. Or if it could even be done for what we would refer to as normal flying.
Searching the FAA registration database, the aircraft received an airworthiness cert in December of last year. Registration was done in January of 2017. Still Experimental but Light Sport category per 21.190. New owner is in California.

    Here's the FAA database entry:

Another showing the registration history if you fill in the N number and run the query:

I'm not quite sure how they managed to get that done, but if it is truly now a ELSA that is good news. It actually makes the airplane somewhat more desirable. Being experimental means anyone can work on the airplane, and now the owner can now go take a 16 hour training course to become a LSRI. That would allow him to do his own condition inspections. (A condition is the experimental version of a annual inspection on standard category aircraft.)
