  • New Seat

From my first Taylorcraft in the early 80's. This seat is really comfortable. I have two of them but having converted my plane to a "single seat" plane, I only had to mount one. Made for Dune buggies if I remember correctly. Shoulder harness works really well now, super snug if you want it that way.

You need to make sure that your shoulder harnesses are above your shoulders in an aircraft, if not you will get spinal compression. Just an FYI. How much does the seat weigh? Tim

Point well made on the shoulder harness. Same as before; poor mounting point on the cross tube. I'm working on some way to attach a cable to the second frame junction above and behind the seat. The one about 4 feet back. Looks like I may have to cut and redo some fabric.

On the other item I checked the weight of the second seat and it is just short of 13 pounds.

Use the aft carry through spar tube, it works the best, just wrap the belt around it and done.

          Tim,

What did you use for the trim piece around the slot/slit in the headliner?
          Cheers,
          Marty

Just a piece of leather, cut nicely and glued on with contact cement, I have 3 more hides left of the grey/light brown, I may use them to make some nice cushions someday.

Hey flyguy, why did you convert her to a single seat? Is she a clip-wing?

                Re: New Seat

I guess it really isn't a single seat as it is still legally the same as before. What I did was make a deal with the insurance company that I would never fly a passenger, and that made my insurance dirt cheap. I have atrial fibrillation from running very fast, and way too often, for about 25 years (not continuously, chuckle). So I think it would be unethical/irresponsible to haul a passenger. So putting in the single seat was just the last part of that. I kept the canvas seat bottom attached to the back mount and simply rolled it up on the cross board mount and tied it down under the new seat. So it is a "single seat" in practice only.
