  • A bit crazy but I want some big big tires

    Fellow Crafters

I need some more fun, need to change my "MO JO" so to speak, I'd like to experiment
with some large soft tundra tires on my T Craft.

Something like maybe 24 inches to maybe 36 inches in diameter total soft at 10 psi or so
that would fit my existing 6 inch wheels??

Is that out there?? I am currently running the Cleveland mechanical wheels and 6:00x6
    tires

    Any ideas would be helpful

Well there is the 26" desser tires, then its up to the bushwheels and I try to run about 12 psi. I hope you have a lot of money, they are mucho expensive...

Here's a thread about the Desser tundra. I'd just like to know how we can get the paper work to install these but can't get it for 6-ply 600x6.

I'm using the lighter weight 26" Alaskan bushwheel airstreaks. They weigh the same as my older 8.50-6 tires with tubes, I love em.

Same here. They weighed about 19# each (http://www.airframesalaska.com/Alask...p/26126.r1.htm). For the price and if lots of pavement ops are intended the Desser 22" 8:50's are probably a better deal (https://www.desser.com/Aircraft-Tire...LASS-AA4K5.asp), but if you need extra floatation and rough country cushion the 26-29's are good. Just avoid dragging them hot dry pavement during landing and especially hard turning.

If I did it again I'd get the Desser tires for the flying I do anymore.

I've got the Desser 8.50s on my C150/150 taildragger. I absolutely love them! They'd be great on a Tcraft. They weigh in at exactly 12.2lb each with tire and tube. I run mine at 22psi, but on a Tcraft I'd say 12-15psi would be perfect. You'll want to get rid of the shitty Shinn brakes though and go for the Grove hydraulic conversion.

Re: A bit crazy but I want some big big tires

The main advantage of the Airstreak/Bushwheel tires is they can be run at very low pressures...8# min is listed but some run them lower in adverse conditions. They are one piece tubeless and can slip on the rims some during braking without shearing the valve stem. No need to screw the tire to the rim. Valve stem's in the tire sidewall. The price for all that is increased wear due to scrubbing from flexing of the soft rubber. Not really meant for continuous use on pavement at low pressures.

How much are you asking? I know a guy looking to put some on a J-3.
