  • Trunk-Style Cowl Latches on Ebay

Just noted a couple of trunk-style cowl latches for sale on Ebay. I have dealt with this seller before, they are very nice and honest. I don't see these come up very often.

    Cheers,
    Marty

I got something like those from Amazon, same price, but they have a loop at the lower part of a locking pin

You know, these look like hardware store parts. The ones that I acquired from some T-Craft parts are much more heavy duty. Not to say T-Craft did not get them at a hardware store, just mine are more robust.

The originals look a little more substantial...

In the steamer trunk world, these are referred to as trunk drawbolts. Try Google. It seems that in the last couple of years, these latches were discussed. Someone found some very much like our 'originals'. I've done some searching, but haven't found the thread.

The ones on Ebay appear to have been sold. I agree, they do not exactly match the stock parts. I just saw a couple of left-side cowlings now on Ebay.

the ones on my BC12-D look a little more robust and have a hole where a locking pin can go thru to hold them from coming open at the wrong time, when I was working on the P-38 that became "Glacier Girl", we were sending some stuff out for cad plate, so I drilled the latches off the cowl and sent them along, came back a nice silver colored plate, should last mine and the next kids life time, gary

I Bought some latches from Rockler that someone insisted were exact matches for TCraft cowl latches. You can see from the photo that they were not exact. So I didn't replace them.
