  • Bungee Cord Replacement

Hi Everyone: My T-Craft is getting the annual done in a few weeks and we are going to install new shock cords. We have the tool but I was wondering about the procedure to do it. Does the airplane have to be jacked up and if so i'm wondering how since you certainly couldnt jack up the landing gear.

I did this several times as a kid with my dad but i forget just how it was done.

Do the floorboards have to come out?

I'm doing this with my mechanic and one other assistant so we certainly have enough hands to do the job.

    Thanks very much.

I normally lift with a engine hoist with a strap or rope right near the upper engine mount bolts. You could probably get by with just pulling the gear together with a tie down strap. The first method will let you check the gear bushings and bolts the second will not. If you don't know when the bolts and bushings were changed last I would pick some up to have on hand when you do the work.

I second Tom's comment above. Lift it and check the bushings. Now is the time to change any bushings that need changing, not after you have the bungees installed.

        Hi Tom,

Floorboards can stay in, seat sling has to be detached at the front.

Check the condition of the rubber bumpers as well.

Also you may find it possible to check bushing and bolt play by using a pry and prying between the gear and the gear fitting.

Sometimes I drive the old bolt out with a matching one and then inspect the old bolt. One can replace the old one with a new and drive the matching one out.
